ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Return Engagement is a dynamic showcase of eleven new original jazz songs by the Brad Ellenberg Quintet. The selections feature rich harmonies, lush melodies and soaring rhythms. The repertoire on Return Engagement has a strong affinity with the classic recordings of the Blue Note Era from the opening track “Three For All” and the Horace Silver inspired “Silver Lining” to the gospel tinged “Just Passing Through” and “Rollin’ On”. The Latin inspired Ter Esperanca doesn’t drop the groove from the opening chord and the horn duel featured on The Chi Is Right sends the song bursting in a volcanic explosion of melodies and rhythm. Klezmer Spiritual is a reflective soul-searching number that continues to elevate from the passionate cry of the tenor to the searing guitar solo at the end. Late Night Shuffle is a straight ahead groove à la examples of the late 1950's, early 1960's and Blues in G comes as advertised! There is an ever present spirit of hope and energy throughout Third Time Around and Trail Dance melts into a percussion overture before the band returns to bring the song to closure.

The Brad Ellenberg Quintet features Gary Bohan: trumpet/flugelhorn and composer, Mario Cerra: saxophone, Bob Abruzese: bass, Grant Smith: drums and Brad Ellenberg: guitar and composer.
