Album Notes
I guess I’ve had a good helping of changes, disappointments, happiness, terror, belly laughs, plenty of screw-ups, and a few epiphanies, in a life that seems to have suddenly gotten long.

Just a few years ago I was surprised to discover that I could explore and express a sea of accumulated thoughts, feelings, and rememberances with lyrics and music and started writing songs. I was fortunate in that people related to my songs and liked them. Some critics have even compared them to some of my heros like John Prine, Towns VanZandt, and Guy Clark (Me? Really?).

Close To The Bone, a follow-up to a first album Come On Over, is an acoustic work,an eclectic collection of original Americana/folk/country songs thoughtfully written and presented with minimal adornment. Guitar & Fiddle, mandolin & Dobro, cello & cittern, harmonica & mandola, a line up of stellar musicians perform with a deliberate restraint that is eloquent and provocative.

Songs range From a poignant social statement about the tragic impacts of a radically changing economy (Progress) to songs of the comfort of a lasting love (Come Listen To Me Now, and love re-found (Again); from light hearted songs (Sunny Side Up) and (Rosie Days ) to A tribute to an enduring love (Our Waltz)

Organic and natural, a great deal of attention has been paid to fidelity and understated studio production. We wanted to be there in the living room with you. We wanted to give you something more present and intimate than just a record playing through the speakers.

We hope the result is an album that is up close and personal, soulful and honest, something
thoughtful, from the heart - something close to the bone.

… definitely an original. Maybe he came from the same dust as Roger Miller and Guy Clark, John Prine and Townes Van Zant, there's a "voice" here, a person with something to say about life.”
Craig Bickhardt – Songwriter, performer

“…Strause is in complete command of his material. His voice is as real as the hand in front of your face, and he sings with an honesty that will bring tears to your eyes.”
Chris Busby – The Bollard
