Album Notes
Born and raised in the Northwest, Brandon Vance has an impressive and eclectic resume as a concert violinist, fiddler, and composer. As a classical violinist he has been the recipient of multiple fellowships, and received both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Violin Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying under renowned violin pedagogue Mr. Paul Kantor. At the age of 14, he made history as the youngest fiddler to win the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship. He has performed and recorded extensively with international folk, jazz, and classical musicians, including Mark Minkler, Alex Fedoriouk, Steve Rice,, Northwest Sinfonietta and his own Celtic-Eastern European Crossover group, “Alchymeia.” His composition “Twin Towers Lament” received a nomination for “Best Celtic Instrumental Song” from “Just Plain Folks Music Awards” in LA, and he has had the honor of premiering his composition “Gael Storm” for fiddle and orchestra with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra at Severance Hall.

Mark Minkler is a talented multi-instrumentalist and a veteran of the NW music scene. Playing piano, guitar, flute, saxophone, trumpet and whistle, he has performed with fiddlers Brandon Vance, Randal Bays, George Wilson, Kevin Carr, Joel Bernstein, Susan Burke, Ed Pearlman, Tim Brown, and Calum Mackinnon, and singers Alison Post, Julie Mainstone, Erin Corday, and Stanley Greenthal. Mark teaches DADGAD guitar, piano, flute and whistle in Irish and Scottish styles at music camps and privately. He has composed many Celtic style tunes that also have jazz and classical influences. His current collaboration with Scottish fiddle champion Brandon Vance has produced a wonderful CD that shows the variety of these influences.
