Album Notes
Wine, art and song blend together in "The Wine Country," by guitarist Brian Gore. This first song in the series, "Vagabond Eddie," is inspired by the stranger than fiction life of Dr. Edward Bale.

Dr. Bale survived a shipwreck off the coast of Monterey in the 1830's. He was hired by General Vallejo to be chief army medic of the Mexican army. He married the General's niece, then started getting into all kinds of trouble as a scofflaw and bootlegger. After trying to assassinate the General's brother in Sonoma, he was jailed, then banned to the "hinterlands" of California just north of what is now St. Helena. He started a Bale mill there. His daughter married Charles Krug and started some of the first vines for California wine on the property.

The Wine Country is an innovative series of ten innovative videos with artist Bill Russell, featuring animations, illustrations, and original songs, each telling a unique story about the region. Each song in the series will be released digitally as a single. The project will culminate in a published release including a map for self-guided tours highlighting landmarks, wineries, breweries and restaurants, alongside the CD recording, recipes, postcards and booklet.
