Album Notes
Saxophonist Brian Patneaude's "All Around Us" (WEPA Records) is a collection of six original compositions plus two covers of jazz classics by Wayne Shorter and Bronislaw Kaper. The album features David Caldwell-Mason on piano and fender rhodes, Mike DelPrete on acoustic bass and Danny Whelchel on drums and percussion.

"With this album I wanted to document a group of compositions and arrangements that were inspired by various people, places and events over the past few years of my life," said Patneaude. "Although the music is instrumental, every song has a story behind it, ranging from revisited childhood memories in the Adirondacks to my recent engagement and even - believe it or not - dental surgery! I've certainly discovered that musical inspiration can be found all around us."

Recorded over two days at Cotton Hill Studios in Albany, NY, All Around Us was made possible through a successful campaign utilizing the fan-funding based Kickstarter.com.

Repeatedly cited as "Best Jazz" by Metroland magazine, Brian Patneaude is one of the busiest musicians in New York's Capital District, maintaining an active performance schedule with the award winning Empire Jazz Orchestra, the seventeen piece juggernaut Big Soul Ensemble and the hard-bop quintet Michael Benedict & Bopitude. He has performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Kingston International Jazz Festival, the Newport Jazz Festival Saratoga, the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival, the Rochester International Jazz Festival and countless clubs and concert halls throughout the Northeast.

Formed in 2002, the Brian Patneaude Quartet recently wrapped up an eight and a half year weekly residency at one of the Capital District’s most highly acclaimed jazz venues - Justin’s. During that time the group released three critically acclaimed albums of original music - "Variations" (2003), "Distance" (2005), and "As We Know It" (2007). The saxophonist's most recent recording - "Riverview" (2009) - featured special guest guitarist Mike Moreno and was named to year-end "Best Of" lists by CD Baby, AllAboutJazz.com, Metroland, Nippertown.com and albanyjazz.com.

Another gem from Brian Patneaude
Very well written, well arranged and well played album by a tight and intelligent quartet. Essentially straight ahead but with originality and excitement, Mr P's voice is now fully formed, which creates constant treats for the discerning listener. It passed my important "random play" test. I've had my mp3 player set to play its thousand plus jazz tracks in random order before I listened to the album. Several times a track from All Around Us came on and got my attention - I found myself saying "This is really good - who is it?". HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
