Album Notes
The music is a blend of Old Time traditional Appalachian music, New Grass, and orchestral music that underscores the duality of the central character and her attachment to both New York City and Winston Salem, NC where she was born and raised. Old time instruments like mandolin, fiddle, banjo and dulcimer, meet more cosmopolitan instruments such as the marimba, piano, and string orchestra.

Bruno Louchouarn’s music has been performed internationally. He has extensive film, theater, and dance credits, ranging from the futuristic cantina music in Total Recall, to music for several dance spectacles by the acclaimed Diavolo dance company.

Soulful and Inventive Score by Bruno Louchouarn for Bekah Brunstetter's The Cake
A delightfully inventive and soulful score composed by Bruno Louchouarn for Bekah Brunstetter's The Cake at Playmaker's Rep. Among the seven cuts on this album are the Old Time classic "Blackberry Blossom" in an arrangement featuring mandolin and marimba; and "Midnight on the Water" featuring fiddle, mandolin, dulcimer, Portuguese guitara. Louchouarn, a prolific and gifted artist, composes for film, theatre, dance, opera, installation works and the concert stage.

Appalachian Inspirations meet Manhattan
Bright, soothing tracks featuring fresh ranges of instrumentation and mood, from the playful (Blackberry Blossom) to the contemplative (Della at Midnight) and dream-like (The Baking Contest). Deftly performed on a multitude of traditional and orchestral instruments by the composer himself, this theatrical score is an enjoyable listening experience for audiences across genres.
