A couple of reviews from the "Eventide" -EP, now extended to full album "Lost for Life":

- Inferno Magazine (printed magazine only): Band of the month

- Skullbanger Media:
by: Juuso Viljanen

Young melodic and progressive metal band Burnclear hails from Joensuu, Finland. From the very first time you listen to Eventide EP you instantly know that these guys have a lot of both talent and vision. If you adore bands like Symphony X and Dream Theater, you really should be getting interested!

Eventide EP is the very first release for this talented Finnish heavy metal group. Eventide begins with a 4 minute long track of the same name, which is also the shortest of the songs on the EP. It’s also the easiest song to listen to plus I could imagine it being played on the radio. It’s slow, very melodic and a beautiful song, but personally it’s my least favourite track. It’s not bad, just not my cup of tea.

The second track ‘Haven’ is way more progressive and heavier. Song starts with guitar melody and suddenly turns into a massive wall of heavy guitar riff and synths. Vocalist Tony Turunen’s singing gives this song a bit ghastly feeling in a positive way.

The third song ‘Lost for Life’ is the EP’s fastest song. It has a catchy riff in the beginning and trust me, this song will keep playing in your head for days! This could be something that Symphony X did.

The last song, called ‘Give up the Ghost’, is my favourite track. This song is pure perfection on every aspect: vocals, guitar melodies and riffs, everything! It’s a shame that it’s only about 6 minutes, I could listen to song like this for an hour without getting bored.

The only real minus on this EP is that it’s too short. Even though three of the songs are about 6 minutes long, it’s over way too fast. But this is also what EP’s are mainly for: to tease the listeners and make them eager for more material. On the plus side of things; it is produced very professionally, compositions are fantastic and most of all, the vocalist is brilliant! Are all the Turunen’s this good at singing? (I’m referring to ex-Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen, who is the sister of Tony!)
