ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Then and Now, self-produced at Byrd House Studio, is a collection of original songs that tell stories and paint musical pictures of timeless themes. A stellar follow-up to Byrd & Street's highly successful "Love Broke the Fall" CD, this collection covers the Americana genre from country, folk, and jazz, to blues, with even a touch of Gospel. Many of the songs are award-winners, like the title track and cut #2 The Checkout Line, both recognized at the 2011 Kerrville Folk Festival in the New Folk song competition. "Lightning Bugs" and "Close Your Eyes" (a lullaby) also won song-writing awards.
The CD features performances by some of the best players in Texas: Llyod Maines (dobro), Warren Hood (fiddle and mandolin), Greg Whitfield (guitar), Bon Wier (drums), and The East Side Flash (piano).
In 2011 Paul Stookey recorded Byrd & Street's song for animal adoptionon from their " Love Broke the Fall" Album, "Let Me Be Your Friend" for YouTube and "Pet Connect ." That songs has also been licensed by the Austin Humane Society and Austin German Shepherd Rescue.

“Wow! ...I was totally blown away when I slid the CD into my player here.......This is exactly why I keep playing music on the radio for the past 24 years! Byrd & Street are among the best in Texas… among the BEST in the USA… making music out there. Trust me, I get a lot of music here, and this sets the standard! N. Mast ,WVPE Elkhart, IN (about "Love Broke the Fall")

Before joining forces with Kathy Street, Tommy Byrd played with The Geezinslaws, sang harmony with Willie Nelson on his album, The Sound in Your Mind, and won numerous songwriting awards, including the Song of Austin. Tommy has also engineered and produced projects for many musicians around central Texas at ‘Byrd House Studio.” Kathy sang with folk and pop groups, a sister's quartet, and performed in musicals and cabarets, playing Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Adelaide in Guys and Dolls and Elsa in the Sound of Music. Together they’ve created award-winning music that has made Top Albums and Top Artists on The Folk DJ Charts, Freeform American Roots Charts and Texas Roots Charts
Street’s sweet, pure voice, a perfect contrast to Tommy Byrd’s earthy soulful sound, Byrd & Street have been making music together since 2001. Their vocals
have been likened to “Lyle Lovette meets Alison Krauss” and their music, “real Americana done with integrity and soul,” is a rich blend of award-winning original songs.

Byrd & Street are best known for their male/female harmony and their outstanding songwriting. Recently, Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul, and Mary ) recorded one of their songs, "Let Me Be Your Friend," from their CD, "Love Broke the Fall," which has been made into a video for Pet Connect, an animal rescue and adoption group on the east coast.
