ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The cajón (cajón drum) in this album's title is a percussion instrument that has found its way into Latin jazz (as well as Spanish flamenco!). Often considered representative of Afro-Peruvian music and culture, it's a wooden box with a sound hole that you sit on to play. (It's very similar to the Cuban cajón.) The statue on the album's front cover is of Caitro Soto, a well-loved , recently deceased and vastly talented percussionist.

Our artists include several very special, internationally touring artists: Lalo Izquierdo, Cotito, Huevito, Coco Linares, Jorge Luis Jasso and Vladimir Vukanovich. Three of the tracks are original songs by three of these artists (Huevito, Lalo Izquierdo and Jorge Luis Jasso), and one is a wonderful demonstration of the rhythms of North and South America performed by Lalo Izquierdo. Percussionists are sure to enjoy it - as, indeed, will anyone who loves rhythm.
