ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Which came first the lyrics or the melody?
Cally Raduenzel has always been a singer and a writer but it wasn't until she learned how to play guitar that she started writing music. Her biggest influences have always been songs with strong melodies and powerful lyrics. Influences abound but for this album you will hear echo's and inspirations from Tom Petty/Aimee Mann (in the singer-songwriter category), Roy Ayers and Bobby Womack (in soul/pop), Ting Tings (in percussion-pop), sweeping melodies, ode's to lost friends, influential writers (Nelson Algren, John Cheever, John Steinbeck, Joseph Mitchell etc...). But wait there's more...comedy plays a part in the sing along song Drunklady and Littler Box Lightening, and if you are a fan of kitschy old movies Fu Man Chu maybe for you.
After reading the book Out of Africa Cally was inspired to write An Appointment At the End of the World, a song that is about how time can pressure our lives while we try to achieve our dreams.
Strong and Fading Sun (Irish sea song vibe) and is a song dedicated to people who are trying to survive in financially hard times. Permanent October the theme song and title of Cally's soon to be released novel has an R.E.M feel with a mandolin guiding its light in this atmospheric tune.
Arrogant Bastard (for all the jerks you've ever known...this ones for you), Sick As Your Worst Secrets and Shining State of Mind were influenced because I feel in love with the cocky rock of Irish punk bands from the 70's and 80's.
All My Mother's Husbands, Your Demons are alternative country rock...cause it just felt so right!
Hauula is a place on the island of Oahu where my brother lives and I found paradise. Its a local working class community "keeping country, country," they know what I mean and after you hear this song and Rapa Nui you too can go on your own vacation of the mind for awhile.
I Liked You Better When You Were Fatter was inspired by a magazine cover of a once great singer who picked modeling over music...I'm sure it was more lucrative but I miss her old spice when she was just a regular girl. Know anyone like that?
My dad is "Funky Side of Life" and this song is the best of the memories of when he worked as a landlord on the Southside of Chicago.
Spit In My Hair was a last minute entry because I was so saddened by the loss of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, school shooting's and people/kids who think they arn't worth saving so they go to extreme measures and end up destroying their lives and the lives of others...hang in there, please...there's other solutions, is the message.
My songs are meant to give you hope, make you shake your butt and maybe even crack a book...or a smile!
Should I go on?? Each of these songs has a story to tell and if you listen you will hear your life, your dreams and see your reflection in their words and melodies...you don't have travel to the moon to enjoy the moonlight!
SPECIAL THANKS- Steve Dawson and his small but mighty Kernel Studio's- where we recorded RAW. He is also the amazing musician who played drums, guitar and keyboards which really helped finesse my limited guitar abilities! Larry Keilman- played mandolin on Permanent October and Strong and Fading Sun...and Wally Rozak who played sax on Funky Side of Life, Arrogant Bastard and Algren.
