Album Notes
About Camera Soul:

Camera Soul is a powerful jazz-funk ensemble, produced by Mr. Marco Rossi of Azzurra Music. Inspired by legendary horn line, soul, R&B, and jazz-fusion artists such as Earth, Wind and Fire, The Commodores, Tower of Power, and Stevie Wonder, the group is based out of southern Italy (Bari), and led by veteran composer-arrangers, brothers Piero and Pippo Lombardo. Camera Soul’s distinctive sound is further defined by the smoky and soulful voice of lead vocalist, Serena Brancale.

The group boasts a world-class lineup of studio and live performance musicians, including Pippo Lombardo (piano), Beppe Sequestro (bass), Francesco Palmitessa (lead guitar), Liviana Ferri (percussion), Mimmo Campanale (drums), Daniele Scannapieco and Bruno Tassone (saxes), Gianfranco Campagnoli (trumpet and fluegelhorn), and Piero Dotti (background vocals). On 'Not For Ordinary People', the Brothers Lombardo also welcome original songwriting and lyrics from Serena Brancale and Denver-based pianist and ASCAP composer, Kathryn Ballard Shut.

The group has released two albums – Words Don’t Speak (2011) and Not For Ordinary People (2013). Whereas Words Don’t Speak reached previous critical acclaim as a “chill” or “smooth” effort, Not For Ordinary People counts on powerful horn lines, deep funk, and impassioned writing, culminating in a stronger effort than the debut.

About the Brothers Lombardo:

Lifelong lovers of jazz, R&B and soul, the Brothers Lombardo are the fuel behind Camera Soul’s tremendous sound. Prior to writing for Camera Soul, both Piero (guitarist) and Pippo (pianist/horn arranger) created masterpieces on several albums over the course of a decade for Latin Jazz group Marchio Bossa. With the formation of Camera Soul in 2011, the brothers refined their writing style to reflect original songs that recall the Golden Age of 1970s and 1980s soul and funk.

In addition to writing for Camera Soul, pianist Pippo is extremely active on the worldwide live music circuit. Most recently, in 2013, Pippo toured Thailand and collaborated with House Music mixmaster Loris Conte to lend his excellent soloistic ideas to Conte’s hit, The Jazz Pianist (Ibiza 2013). Both composers are members of Italy’s performing rights organization, SIAE, and their music can be heard on radio sites such as Jango, Earbits, and Spotify, and also purchased on major mp3 sites such as iTunes, Amazon, CDBABY,, and Bandcamp.

Camera Soul Review - @CriticalJazz

5-Star Delight
There is a right way and a wrong way to use social media in the music industry. Social media is all about self promotion and probably the cheapest, fastest and most cost effective means of getting ones name in front of the public. I stumbled across Camera Soul while on twitter and here we are. I checked out the web site first and was amazed at the sound. While this ensemble is part of the sonic mother load I seem to have hit with artists from Italy, there is an intriguing hybrid of soul, jazz, blues and a touch of bossa for flavor. The sound is warm and open as that of a live studio recording. While this release could easily be cast in the smooth jazz pile of new releases, the error would be unforgivable. Aside from the lack of mind numbing "programming" that serves little but to cut down on musician payroll and aid the rhythmically challenged, vocalist Serena Brancale's vocals have an all most chameleon like effect in direct proportion to the sonic colors the band is painting from on each subsequent tune.

Originals have a natural organic flow while the tunes themselves are most contemporary winding up with a tune within a tune. This deceptively subtle approach taken by the band as musical collective adds texture and depth and absolutely unlimited cross-over appeal. The smoother side of jazz has struggled to find that new sound to help slide a wedge in the revolving door of smooth jazz stations either changing to a format that works or closing up shop entirely. "Again" opens up this release with a delightful soulful spin, lyrically solid and the pop of bassist Beppe Sequestro is spot on. The lyrical flow of a horn section that obviously listened to a Chicago record or two works as the sonic glue binging this marvelous septet together. Guitarist Francesco Palmitessa turns in a tasty solo and helps wrap this tune up nicely. A danceable cover to the Lionel Ritchie tune "Love Will Conquer All" breathes new life into a somewhat forgotten hit from yesterday. Drummer and percussionist Mimmo Campanale own the pocket while Serena Brancale's vocals work hand in glove with the guitar solo from Palmitessa, jazz sensibilities more on a more contemporary groove with an organic nuance that is hard to shake. "Bossanova" is the musical equivalent of the sexy little black dress, an air of mystery with a sexy back beat you feel with your hips and hear with your feat.

To call this release a retro soul or dance release from the late 1970's would be a gross over simplification. While certain genre roots are clearly unmistakable, what sets Word's Don't Speak apart would be the ingenious hybrid of soul, pop, and even a little disco but with more global jazz related sensibilities. In the hands of lesser talent this release could have easily died a self indulgent death in post production but instead we have a true working band that is dialed in to a lyrical sense of purpose. I have never bought into the notion of European jazz and still don't. What I buy into is a first call band that happens to be from Italy and is capable of creating their own sound with top notch engineering, production and above all performance.

A delightful change of pace and easily a 5 star release! Italy has proven once again to be my musical easy button.

Groove Loves Melody

Camera Soul
From Groove Loves Melody:

From Italy, Camera Soul brings Words Don’t Speak, eleven songs (eight of which are originals) that primarily bask in the flavor of U.S. soul/jazz of 1977-1982. Along with the contributions of the accomplished musicians in the group under the production of keyboardist, Pippo Lombardo, the addition of the Serena Brancale on vocals make the project particularly warm and inviting. Standouts here are the original tracks, “Born to Be (Forever Mine)”, “Bossanova”, the Maurice White-penned, “Miracles”, and the cover of Lionel Ritchie’s “Love Will Conquer All”. Truthfully, there are no bad songs on this project and if you’re in the mood for soul songs from that aforementioned era, this disc is a welcome new find.

"A Must Buy for those seeking to treat their ears..."

The wind and rain may be battering Britain, but in my household there’s nothing by sunshine and warm feelings brought on by the music of a group of Italian musicians – collectively known as ‘Camera Soul‘ (or Soul Room in English).

Formed by highly respected artists and brothers, Piero & Pippo Lombardo, ‘Camera Soul’ is the latest project in a career spanning over a decade and the album ‘Words Don’t Speak' shows exactly why the brothers have lasted so long in the business.

Having previously formed ‘Marchio Bossa‘ back in 2001 and achieving success across Europe with their cool fusion of Bossanova, Jazz and Samba, the Lombardo brothers decided it was time to start a new venture without straying too far from their jazz roots.

Now featuring the amazing vocals by Serena Brancale and backed up by a talented mix of musicians, ‘Camera Soul‘ brings you sound missing from todays music market.

With a blending of Jazz, Funk, Dance and Soul music, this album has it all to chase the blues away.

Look out for the tracks, ‘Zigzags‘, ‘Bossanova‘, ‘I Am‘, ‘Miracles‘ (originally by Stevie Wonder) and their brilliant rendition of Lionel Richie’s hit ‘Love will conquer all‘ which has a Jamiroquai feel to it and one of my personal faves.

The album ‘Words Don’t Speak‘ by ‘Camera Soul‘ is a must-buy for those seeking to treat their ears to some real feel-good music by talented musicians and songwriters.

Review: Amazing & Smooth Jazz

Camera Soul : Rated 10/10 Stars By Listeners!
If you like the sound of European jazz, then you will truly enjoy this release from Camera Soul entitled Words Don’t Speak. It’s from the same team that brought us Italian Bossa Bar by Marchio Bossa. This is an Italian release which features a total of 11 songs, 8 of which are original compositions. The overall sound of this release reminds us of the soul/jazz sounds from latter 70s to the early 80s. Keyboardist and producer Pippo Lombardo has enlisted a top notch group of musicians for this album, which features vocals by Serena Brancale. Top tracks include , “Born to Be (Forever Mine),” “Bossanova,” the Maurice White-penned, “Miracles,” and the cover of Lionel Ritchie’s “Love Will Conquer All.”

Review: Buelent Saman's 'Muzik Tavisiyeleri' (REVIEW IN TURKISH)

Camera Soul' is "Beautiful, Impressive, Takes You Into a Different World"

Ben tekrar okunanlardan özellikle Richie'nin Love Will Conquer All adlı parçasını beğendim, parça harika bir düzenleme ile kabuk değiştirmiş.
