Album Notes
There's a lot we could say about this album and ourselves as songwriters, musicians, artists and humans so we're glad there is a bit of room here...
5 of these songs we wrote or co-wrote and 3 are 'covers', other folks songs, that we chose for various reasons. We started writing 'Christmas songs' a few years back so this has been a while in coming.
- The title track, 'Ready-Made Christmas', was written with Doug Folkins, a prolific writer from Vancouver Island, BC. Doug writes mostly in the country vein and we heard he was in Halifax so we grabbed him for a few hours one day in 2018. Cailin had the germ of an idea and we fleshed out most of it that day.
- 'Dear Santa' was a song Cailin came up with and then we took a while finishing this one off, tweaking lines and words and music. It speaks so strongly of the reminiscing that happens for so many of us during holidays and special occasions.
- Track three, 'The Holly And The Ivy', is that old traditional English tune from a couple of hundred years bac, We had fun on this with Cailin playing all the percussion parts!
- 'Christmas In Paris' was inspired after we toured in Europe the first time. We had the chance to spend some time in Paris and it was inspiring. Such a lovely place. Robert wrote the core of the song and brought it in to a writing session with Doug Folkins and Lucy LeBlanc. It has that European flair and we seconded Susanne Kozo from Ontario to play accordion which really sets the mood and makes it much more Parisienne
- We first heard 'A Children's Winter' on the fabulous Christmas album by the Barra MacNeils and started playing it live that season, maybe 8 years ago. It was written by the late great Dermott O'Reilly of Ryan's Fancy fame. We tracked down his widow, Ann O'Reilly, and gave her a ring and she and the family have kindly let us record it.
- song 6 is essentially a recreation of a true story from Cailin's family. Many years back it actually happened, very similar to as told in the song, for a young family in Shediac. A sweet story of a brothers love for his sisters.
- Robert wrote 'Perfect Gift' as a tribute to anyone who has struggled to find that perfect gift for one they love.
- Closing with 'Ave Maria' was something very different for us. Cailin sang it as a child soloist in the church she attended in Montreal. The version we created features the vibes of Chase Banks, a percussionist/vibraphonist we met while playing as Artists On Board for VIA Rail. We struck up a friendship when the 3 of us played the night away on New Years 2019 and he was kind enough to record the track for us!

Songwriting always seems like a job that is never done but we're back at it already and will have mosre coming. Keeps your ears to the ground. :)

And still more...
Husband & wife duo, Campbell + Green, deliver a feel-good performance with tight harmonies, excellent musicianship and strong songwriting. Their warm blend, evocative imagery and heartfelt melodies is a roller coaster of emotion. Their relaxed on-stage presence, humorous banter and story-telling has captivated audiences across Europe & Canada.

They have been together since 2005 and their focus on songwriting has seen them cross genres & styles: folk, pop, country, blues and even light jazz grooves have all found their way into their original songs which are featured on their albums and heard on TV.

Cailin Green sings and plays guitar and grew up singing in churches, musical theatre and country rock bands. When she is not on the road, Cailin also leads a pop choir and teaches voice & guitar. And paints! Check out Cailin Green dot com

Robert has been playing keyboards since the age of 6. From pipe organs in church to a touring sideman for recording artists across Canada and the US, Robert also sings and manages much of the business side of Campbell + Green.
