Album Notes
Candace Carnie has been playing, singing and composing for the past twenty-five years. The musical road has taken her throughout Canada, to Japan, the Dominican Republic and the U.S.A. Her eclectic repertoire contains an array of romantic folk, jazz, klezmer, celtic, and pop ballads. She has been music director for both university and community theatre productions, and has performed in various folk festivals and clubs.

Candace is an accomplished pianist, vocalist and songwriter. Her live performances showcase her quirky sense of humour as well as her incredible musical talents.

Her CD, 'madd river', was released in 1997.

'madd river' is a collection of original songs (one cover) and the styles range from easy listening to celtic and folk to pop ballads. There are several very beautiful instrumental pieces on the CD.

Candace plays piano and keyboard and sings on most of the numbers, with a a few other musical collaborations on some songs (such as the bagpipes on Pipe Me Home)

A collector's item by a multi-talented artist.
Latch onto this as a collector's item. Readers will have noted that there's no descriptive cut line. That's because the album is in the nature of a sampler. Ms. Carnie is a multi-talented performer and all of her strengths are on display here. Carnie composes, arranges, sings and plays virtually all types of music. The 17 tracks include pop style ballads, classical, Celtic, folk, Oriental and even country music. She excels on all of them; so much so that it's hard to say what is her principal strength. Her pianistics are beyond criticism and one could listen to an entire album of her simply - simply - playing. As a singer, she's capable of great emotion but not the in-your-face style. Perhaps we're going too far out here, but to us she sounds like a comfortable cross between Joni Mitchell and Rita MacNeil with a touch of Jerri Southern thrown in for good measure. And we should add that she's lovely to look at as well. If there's any justice, Candace Carnie(please don't change her name to Candy) should be the next big star of pop music. Produced by Jerry Tupis and recorded at SoundAround in Etobicoke, Ontario. All tracks are full MAPL.

Listening to you perform is a delight.....
..... You are such a talented performer in every
important aspect of performing that it seemed such a
waste to me when you decided to take a break from it.
The pleasure and exhilaration of listening to you
perform is a one of the delights of my life which will
remain a wonderful memory until I die. My New Year's
wish for you is that you get the appreciation and
recognition that you so fully deserve.

Great blend of vocal and instrumentals
Candace's album "madd river" has a pleasing blend of material on it
covering styles from Easy Listening, Celtic, Country, instrumental and
Adult Contemporary.

Her style cannot be completely isolated into one genre because she crosses
the borders with her music.

In some songs such as "Pipe me Home" and "Avon" you can hear the
Celtic overtones, but then "Eyes of Blue" is pure ballad and fits into the
Adult Contemporary description.

The vocals on "madd river" are gorgeous, showcasing Candace's lovely,
pure voice.

Her expertise on the piano and keyboards is enviable and she shows her
skill especially well on the instrumental pieces such as "Skinner's Bend".
