ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Now, 24 years after the Los Angeles power pop/glam band known as "Candy" released their cult classic major label album "Whatever Happened to Fun," fans of unadulterated power pop can revisit the big-haired 80's with "Candy - Teenage Neon Jungle", nationally released on SongTree Records.

With a walloping 25 tracks of original raw demos, live and re-recorded songs, and little gems from Candy's audio scrapbook, and with its extensive liner notes and photos, "Teenage Neon Jungle" takes you on a voyeuristic ride with a breaking band in the heart of America's music world.

Behind Candy's unified sound were Gilby Clarke (guitar, vocals); Jonathan Daniel (bass, vocals,); Kyle Vincent (lead vocals, rhythm guitar); and John Schubert (drums, vocals).

Drawn together by the same ambition -- "to play good music" -- the guys met by chance and circumstance, and the combination was instantly natural. When Candy played their first gig, the legendary Kim Fowley saw them and predicted, "These guys are the next matinee idols." And with any promotion whatsoever, there's little doubt that Fowley's words would have proved prophetic, and Candy would have enjoyed a Fall Out Boy/Jonas Brothers'-like success.

Bands as diverse as Green Day and Gin Blossoms have listed Candy as influences and, even over two decades after the fact, most of these songs could stand up to any contemporary power pop bands out there.

Candy toured for a year, playing all of LA's infamous nightspots and opening national tours for Rick Springfield and Corey Hart. Though the band was short-lived - Clarke joined Guns N' Roses, Vincent went on to a successful solo career - their admirers have remained enthralled by Candy's brief influence.

Whatever happened to fun? It's all over "Teenage Neon Jungle!"

Saw Candy open for Rick Springfield on August 3rd, 1985. My brother was working security so I got to go backstage and meet the guys. Still have a couple pics of them!!! Candy's definitely '80's pop!!!

Its about time some of Candy's work was available!
I couldn't believe my luck when I found this CD for sale! I've been a GnR fan for years and have been busy collecting all the solo stuff for about three years, with my collection getting progressively more obscure... a Candy CD has been my Holy Grail! This CD shows that great music doesn't date (well not in a bad way), its of its time but what a great period in music. I only hope that on the strength of this release the original "Whatever Happened to fun" will be rerelease! Long live Candy!

Great throwback to days of fun!
Thought the radio blurbs in between plays was a cool add! Reminds me of the days when you sat with your finger poised over the pause button waiting to record this week's number one song in the land! Enjoyed the upbeat 80's sound!

I've been waiting for 17 years for a new Candy album - FINALLY!!!!!
This CD is really cool - loved the recordings between tunes and I really enjoyed the live version of Turn It Up Loud since I was at that concert - just a 15 year old gal with the hots for a band she'd never heard of before but wished they'd stay and play and leave Corey Hart backstage! I love 80's music and this CD is a great reminder of a great time in music and in my life!!!

Good to hear the old stuff. Hope the original album is next.
It's been along time, but this CD brought me a smile as well as a flashback to days gone by. Candy, Bang Bang, Xports, It was all good fun for me. This CD is rough but good enough to listen to. And I only hope to get ahold of the original album on CD someday. Hell I still wish I had a copy of their video. For the time they were very cool. They were on top of their game and I am glad I was their to see it. This CD is well worth the bucks to anyone who remembers Candy. dion@dionwatts.com

Music from my youth! The lake, beer, friends and tunes!
I have this album on an old cassette tape and have been looking everywhere for it! Now I have finally found it. It will not leave my cd player for weeks. Great harmonies, cheesy lyrics, just what the 80's music was all about! Crank it!

I enjoy the upbeat and fun songs on this CD. Great CD and the addition of the songs at the end are wonderful, to hear where the members of the band are now musically.

Killer hooks with an edge
This band is very underated. With such talented players it is amazing that bigger things didn't happen for this band. It's interesting to hear what this band did after Candy. I loved the Electric Angels and of coarse Kill For Thrills. These songs actually sound very fresh and excitng. Not bad for demos. If you like staright ahead power pop I'd highly recommend this band.
