ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes

Cantabile Chamber Singers is a choir of 16-20 voices founded in 2006 by artistic director Cheryll J. Chung

With an emphasis on fostering new Canadian talent and an inclusive choral community, Cantabile Chamber Singers is a choir committed to enlightening audiences and attracting a new generation of Canadians to the resonance and enrichment of choral music through a combination of informed interpretation, engaging audiences and innovative programming. We have toured across Canada,  participated in various festivals and have been featured in Chorus America’s ‘Voices’ magazine.

Founder and Artistic Director, Cheryll J. Chung  is a conductor, pianist, and teacher  from Toronto, Canada. She holds a Master’s of Music in conducting from the University of Toronto, where she studied choral conducting with her mentor Dr. Doreen Rao and Orchestral Conducting with Raffi Armenian.

Cheryll was twice recipient of the prestigious Elmer Iseler Conducting Fellowship in her Master’s program, where she had the privilege of working with the Elmer Iseler Singers and Lydia Adams. She received the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Scholarship from Yale University’s School of Music  when she attended the Norfolk Conducting Institute as a conductor and singer. She has also received the John O. McKellar Scholarship for her work in music education and choral studies at the University of Toronto.

She has worked with great conductors such as Helmuth Rilling, Simon Carrington, and Ivars Taurins having participated as Conducting Fellow at the Oregon Bach Festival, Toronto International Bach Festival, Norfolk Conducting Institute, Sarteano Conducting Institute and Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute.

She is currently on faculty at the Royal Conservatory of Music, conducting the Taylor Academy Choir,  and has held conducting positions with the Heliconian Choir and Orchestra, York Region Children's Chorus, and the St Clement's Orchestra.
