ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Veteran musician/composer Hugh Hitchcock finally publishes his long-awaited solo album, "Funkatology" mixing Jazz, Funk, Soul and Latin rhythms in a compendium of Hugh's original compositions and musical production visions into one seminal work. Including lush production, masterful use of synthesizers and keyboards, great bass playing, innovative jazz & funk rhythms.

Enjoy Hugh's re-imagining (or rather his own musical vision) of his song "Captain Jarvis" which was produced by legendary Motown producer Paul Riser and released in 1979 on artist Noel Pointer on United Artists label reaching #7 on the Billboard jazz charts.

Captain Jarvis was also the "most requested song" of the year on legendary Detroit Jazz radio station WJZZ. Now hear it played the way Hugh originally conceived it! Super nice production, destined for more popularity. You'll probably recognize it right away

Want more? Check out Hugh's album Funkatology! Hugh follows up Captain Jarvis with a one-two punch of powerful jazz fusion hits including the aptly-described "Birth of Fire", followed by his sequel to Captain Jarvis, "Jarvis Prevails". Thereafter you'll hear a "quiet urban storm" of Funk/Soul Jazz called "The Detroit Jam". What Hugh Hitchcock album would be complete without a little irreverent political humor? You'll find that in "Pressure and Profit" which mixes the voice of Ronald Reagan with Funk and Jazz. It's downright hilarious (and funky). The album rounds itself out with an innovative jazz funk "suite" called "Wiley's Gone", and bids you good-bye with a Weather Report-inspired tone poem appropriately titled "Weathered the Storm"

People have described Hugh as a "funky Chick Corea" or "blue eyed Herbie Hancock"... you have to listen to understand! It's powerful!

Also featured on the album are veteran Miami musicians Joe Collado on Latin percussion, Jesse Jones Jr. on saxophones, Ike Woods on guitar and James Knoerl on drums. A "powerhouse" combination!

"Hugh Hitchcock is one of the funkiest bass players on the planet!" - the late, great Bruce Nazarian

Hugh Hitchcock is also known as Hugh Jarvis Hitchcock, Huey Hitchcock, Captain Jarvis, The Funkatologist
