Stars

by Carey Ott

This song tends to remind me of how big the world is, how big love is, and how small some of our problems seem when you look at the bigger picture.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I was traveling, playing shows throughout Colorado, about 8,500 feet up in the mountains when I realized 'the stars look different out here.' I grew up in flatland Illinois, lots of cornfields. But up there in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado I was moved by what I saw...and felt. I finished up my tour and as fall turned to winter, I drove the 1600 miles from Salt Lake City, Utah all the way back to Nashville in my Chevy Caprice rental. I was alone and I had a lot of time to think. Time to listen to a bunch of great music that has always inspired me, like Tom Petty and the Beatles and James Taylor. When I got back to Tennessee, the air was so sweet, it was still warm in October. I felt so welcomed back to my home in Nashville. I wrote "Stars" not too long after I got back. The trip had changed me and inspired me in so many ways. The song just poured out of me. Since then, I've played this song at weddings and my Grandma's funeral. It tends to resonate with people. Maybe it reminds people of how big the world is, how big love is, and how small some of our problems seem when you look at the bigger picture. 'Don't cha know we're made of stars?'
