ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Voodoo Lilies find their influences from across the genres of funk, neo-soul, R&B, Rock and Roll, and Bossa Nova, amongst others. This album was wholly independently produced and recorded by the team at our self-made record label, Butter Island Records, headed by chief engineer James Margolis.

The album came out of musical experimentation and live shows in Brooklyn, jams in the studio, and rainy days in small apartments. It covers the topics of love, being 20-something, solitude, and spirituality. Carissa Matsushima, front-woman, Mexican-Japanese-American singer-songwriter has been writing and singing her whole life, but this is her first release. After much stewing and brewing this is the collaborative result of many loves, many interests, and many feelings, processed and recorded into this energetic and palpably soulful compilation of songs and vocal loops.
