Album Notes
This EP, blending lyrics in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and Hebrew features a Brazilian / Jewish multicultural singer living in San Diego. Carla is an “old soul” who blends harmony, diversity, and language with joy, connection, and comfort using her smooth voice. Carla loves the bossa nova and she choose some of her favorite composers, from classic Brazil's Antônio Carlos Jobim to current pop singer Laura Pausini to be part of this project.

The Hebrew song “Hatishma Koli,” which translates as "can you hear my voice” showcases Carla’s ability to sing in many different languages. This is how she connects to the world and this recording is her first opportunity to share her musical experiences.

Carla had a wonderful time recording with some amazing musicians including Danny Green on piano, Justin Grinnell on bass, Julien Cantelm on drums, Peter Sprague on guitar and Tripp Sprague on flute. Both Danny and Carla created the beautiful song arrangements and later she found out that they both have the same Jewish roots and mutual connection with Brazilian music. Julien first met Carla when he came to give her daughter drum lessons. Tripp is Peter’s brother. Carla couldn’t ask for more, a family group has been created!

Stay tuned for a video clip on the song “So Nice / Summer Samba,” also known as “Samba de Verão.” The video was produced by fellow brasileiro Alexandre Godinho. You can access it on YouTube and soon it will be on her website too. While practicing for this video production Carla’s youngest daughter gave her strength and connection to the song. As the song says “someone who would take my hand and samba through life with me,” it seemed like a perfect fit to have Carla’s daughter included in the video.

Carla titled this CD “Thankful” and her inspiration comes from her devotion to God and her family. Carla's grandfather was a cantor (singer) at Jewish religious services and he grew up in Lebanon and later moved to Copacabana, Brazil. His talent for music seemed to pass on to Carla. She is now passing along her music to her oldest daughter who is already composing her own songs. This inspires Carla even more to continue her journey. Carla is also thankful to her mom who kept asking “how come you have not recorded your CD yet?” Now Carla can say that’s she’s done it and she’s inspired to continue on.

During the process of this project, Carla composed her originals songs in Portuguese, because the words come to her in her native language. Other times she recognizes the influence of living in the U.S. for 14 years and then she creates songs with English lyrics.

Carla recently attended Brazil Camp in Northern California with amazing instructors, other gifted musicians, and samba dancers. This experience inspires her to create more. She feels it in her body and hopes that feeling gravitates to you to shake yours. She truly believes that music is the universal language.

This EP project is currently offered as a digital release through numerous musical outlets. Physical copies can also be purchased.
