ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Blending a wide variety of musical influences, (to include Jazz, R&B, Rock and Latin genres), Carlos writes and performs his own original music as an American singer/songwriter living in Japan. “Nothing Else Feels So Right” contains 10 original songs that were written and composed by Carlos. And while this debut effort reflects his talent, skill and versatility as a Songwriter, Lyricist, and Composer, it also provides Carlos an opportunity to further develop his talents as a Vocalist. You'll find some great Jazz, R&B, Pop, Rock & Latin-based tunes to fit every musical taste, along with support from some of the BEST professional session artists out of Tokyo, Japan, to include Hirofumi Tokutake on Guitar (Dr. K Project); Akio Suzuki on Saxophone (Misia; Steely Dan; Yoshihiro Kai; George Yanagi & Rainy Wood); "Pecker" on Latin Percussion (Minami Yoshitaka; Orquesta Del Sol; Bob Marley & The Wailers); and Naoya Hamada on Drums (Dreams Come True; Kinki-Kids; Hi-Fi Set; Garp; and Junichi Inagaki).

If you get your hands on this CD and listen to it very closely, I’m sure you’ll understand why so many people view Carlos’ music as a tasteful resurrection of the classic format found in the late 70’s and early 80’s from such artists as Marvin Gaye, Michael Franks, Carlos Santana, and Steely Dan. So pick up a copy today, then sit back, crank up your stereo and relax to the smooth, infectious grooves of Carlos J. Saldaña!

John Book, Music For America

A wonderful drive through the quiet storm of Saldaña
An American who has called Okinawa his home for the last 24 years, guitarist Carlos J. Saldaña is a fan of smoothed out jazz, circa mid-1970's with a bit of soul. For me, it's also the kind of soulful jazz that was very popular in the Hawaiian islands, dominated by such artists as Seawind, Nohelani Cypriano, and Lemuria. That kind of style was just in the air, and Saldaña is equally adept at singing and playing the guitar while knowing about what to play when the moment is right. He's all about the fulfillment of the late night vibe, and the title of the album couldn't be any more appropriate: Nothing Else Feels So Right (Sun & Fish).

Much of the songs here have a tropical feel, but it's far from being weak. It's the kind of music one can play while on vacation in some secluded hot spot, but also in a romantic moment while looking for human hot spots. Saldaña, along with The Style Band, never play with too much force, everything is done with an awareness of how to be seductive, how to be fun, and how to hold back when necessary. Saldaña primarily plays the electric guitar, but in Okinawa and throughout Japan he's also known for his acoustic work, some of which is shares here. If the quiet storm is what you long for, this album provides it and then some.
