ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Comfort & Joy is a collection of CarolAnn Barrow's favorite sacred songs of Christmas. Accompanied by the simple elegance of the grand piano, CarolAnn's sweet, clear voice rings clearly with the joy and peace of the winter season.

Singer/Songwriter and Recording Artist CarolAnn Barrows is a Songbird of Healing and Transformation

From a very young age CarolAnn enchanted audiences with her crystal clear singing voice and grace-filled artistry. Appreciative audiences of up to 20,000 in Seattle’s most prestigious performance venues -- including The Paramount, The Fifth Avenue, McCaw Hall Opera House, The Intimate Theater, and The Key Arena – took delight in her healing musical gifts to rave reviews.

"CarolAnn's songs touch the heart within the heart. When she sings, I listen. She has a beautiful voice." ~ Ram Dass

“Oh CarolAnn, your voice is so beautiful that a butterfly stopped to listen.”-~ Jane, Age 5

CarolAnn Barrows has the voice on an angel, the patience of a saint, and a mission to heal the world through song. Her story about overcoming a life-threatening illness offers powerful proof that those who suffer pain or profound loss can find their way back to live the life of their dreams.

While on a trip to the Florida coast, the random bite of a mosquito changed everything. An encephalitis damaged the whole left and part of the right side of CarolAnn's brain. Her once promising singing career was placed on hold as she literally fought for every breath. Meditation, music, chanting, and the Chinese healing practice of Qigong saved her life and spirit. These practices allowed her to maintain sacred connection to her breath and the present moment during years of painstaking rehabilitation and recovery. As she now playfully quips, "It took be over 25 years to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.”

Today, CarolAnn is once again strong, healthy, and unstoppable as she sings to heal body, mind, and spirit of others. Concerts, life celebrations and transitions, places of worship and those who provide palliative care call on CarolAnn to touch and transform lives and spirits with the beauty of her healing voice.

With six albums to her credit, CarolAnn’s music is infused with sacred sound, chant, Classical, multi-cultural and interfaith influences to create a musical embrace of peace.

She composed Being of Light with music created specifically for children with life-threatening illnesses and their caregivers. This is her most profound and personal creative contribution. A promise she made, while deathly ill, to create this album is what kept her alive during her years of recovery from the ravages of encephalitis. Accompanied by Celtic harp and flute, CarolAnn’s crystal clear voice weaves its way right into the heart and refreshes the soul in a musical embrace of peace. All but two of the songs are in the form of chant and invite listeners into a state of grace. The sweet simplicity of repetition serves as a refuge where souls can rest, where they can gather their strength for the journey ahead – wherever it may lead. Each set of lyrics and rhythms are pleasantly different with its own charm: “Being of Light”, CarolAnn’s ode to her new born son, is sweet and inspiring, while “Blessing” is tranquil and meditative. CarolAnn’s exquisitely beautiful acapella rendition of “Over the Rainbow” is nothing short of spiritually illuminating.

Comfort & Joy ~ Sacred Songs of Christmas CarolAnn was named after her father, Carol, who was born on Christmas Eve and was named after the carolers outside of the hospital and his mother Ann. It is only fitting that she share her favorite carols, accompanied by the luxurious sounds of a grand piano.

On her album, Strangest Dream ~ A World Without War, she is joined by extraordinary Northwest guitarist, Steve Trembley. Together their music makes you believe that, we will, one day, live in a world of peace and plenty for all.

With One Breath Mindfulness Meditation you can follow along as CarolAnn guides you through a classic Qigong body scan that will help you to balance and increase your energy. “With every breath I breathe, I pray for people to find peace within their own hearts ~ to experience Heaven on Earth. With my voice I carve out a refuge of compassion which creates the sacred space for others to discover how to heal from the inside out ~ one breath at a time."

Peace of My Heart was CarolAnn's first solo album, recorded in the late 80's, expressing how heavy her heart was with the problems in our world, as well as her deep faith in our ability to solve them.

As the soloist in The Mevlidi Sherif Symphony ~ in English, CarolAnn is the first person to ever sing the most beloved 500-year-old song in English! Her heartfelt prayer is that this music serves to awaken people of all faiths to the sacred musical treasures of Islam and that it brings peace where there is ignorance, hatred, fear and strife. "For it is only when we understand the stories of another culture that we can truly embrace their deepest values. Then we naturally discover the common threads of peace, harmony and goodwill that weave their way through all of our stories."

CarolAnn lives on a beautiful island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean surrounded by lovebirds and doves.
