ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
South Africa’s leading electric cellist, Carol Thorns has been performing locally and internationally for over a decade. With her red electric cello, original cello music and mesmerizing backdrop of film and visual effects she creates a live performance that is fresh, original and quite magical.
The interplay between the music and visuals (mixed live by a Visualist) earned her a 4 star rating at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the largest arts festival in the world, and subsequent invitations to perform in India, Dubai, the UK, Seychelles and across South Africa.
Her debut album, Fireflies In The Rain received a South African Music Award nomination for Best Instrumental Album 2010.

Producer Helmut Meijer gathered sound bytes from around the world including rain recorded in Venice for ‘Thoughts of Winter’, Arabic percussion in Morocco for ‘Red City’ and a flight attendant on a London to Cape Town flight in ‘Solace’. The result is a series of compositions enriched with context-specific sounds.
‘‘Fireflies In The Rain’ has so many things to boast about, notably timbre, creativity and consistence. I am moved by her cello skills…’ Music Industry Online,
'Thorns has immense talent’ The Star

‘A deep affinity with nature and landscapes comes through in the music’ The Cape Argus

‘Mesmerising!’ The Citizen
