ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Welcome to the Spiritual Cabaret!

Imagine yourself sitting in an intimate after-hours cabaret sipping a glass of your favorite beverage. The people are friendly, the lights are low, and the vibe is elevated. Onstage a woman sits at the piano, illuminated by a single spotlight. Her songs remind you that no matter who you are or where you’re from, you are Stardust – a Spark of Divine Light that will never die.

Personnel:
Carolyn Wilkins – piano and vocals
Phil Neighbors – drums
Skip Smith – bass
Diane Wernick – sax

About Carolyn
Carolyn Wilkins has always had a passion for helping people. As a kid, she was a bit like Lucy in the Charlie Brown cartoons – the one everyone turned to for advice. She’s been a jazz pianist and a professor at Berklee College of Music for most of her professional life. Her performance experience includes radio and television appearances with her group SpiritJazz, a concert tour of South America as a Jazz Ambassador for the US State Department, performances with the Pittsburgh Symphony as a percussionist under Andre Previn, and shows featuring Melba Moore, Nancy Wilson and the Fifth Dimension.
Carolyn has written five books: Damn Near White: An African American Family’s Rise from Slavery to Bittersweet Success and They Raised Me Up: A Black Single Mother and the Women Who Inspired Her, both published by the University of Missouri Press. Melody for Murder and Mojo for Murder, both published by Pen-L Publishing, and Tips for Singers: Performing, Auditioning and Rehearsing (Hal Leonard Publications).

Carolyn is also a psychic medium, a Reiki Master, and an initiated priestess of Yemaya, the African Goddess of compassion, motherhood and the ocean.
