Album Notes
In the last three years alone he’s driven 80,000 miles to play in more than 50 cities in 20 states. When you figure in the airplanes and rental cars, it adds up to a lot of scenery and a lot of songs.

For Craig Carothers, the journey, and the songs, began in the Pacific Northwest. Craig’s parents were both music teachers. Around the house, sounds ranged from Brubeck to Mancini; Victor Borgé to Jonathan Winters. Later influences included Motown, Joni Mitchell, Tom Lehrer, and The Beatles.
Venues were plentiful around his home in Portland, Oregon, and Craig spent more than 20 years playing almost every night of the week inside a forty-block radius.

During that time, he toured with or opened for a wide variety of acts: Mose Allison, Karla Bonnoff, Jonatha Brooke, Rosanne Cash, Bruce Cockburn, Paula Cole, Robert Cray, Catie Curtis, Crash Test Dummies, Donovan, Peter Himmelman, John Hiatt, Leo Kottke, Patty Larkin, Michael McDonald, Dennis Miller, Anne Murray, Danny O'Keefe, Leroy Parnell, Paula Poundstone, Boz Skaggs, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Richard Thompson, Jethro Tull, Romeo Void, Loudon Wainwright III, Tim Weisberg, David Wilcox, Warren Zevon, and many others.

Things changed in 1995, when country music star Trisha Yearwood recorded Craig’s song “Little Hercules.” He hung a gold record on the wall and started traveling to Nashville on a regular basis.

A publishing deal followed, and over the next five years his travels produced new performance opportunities as well. Soon, he had regular gigs in Nashville, Birmingham, Atlanta, Houston, and Little Rock.

In 2000 he made Nashville his home. Trips back to the west coast started to include stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Phoenix, and Salt Lake.

In recent years Craig’s songs have been recorded by artists including: Kathy Matea, Lorrie Morgan, Sons Of The Desert, Kate Markowitz, Andrea Zonn, Steve Seskin, Berkley Hart, and Peter, Paul and Mary.

“ …he excels at creating smart, memorable material and putting it across with abundant personality”

—Birmingham News

“...the right mix of weary-eyed cynicism and helpless hearted romanticism...”

—Performing Songwriter Magazine

“He has a voice that should be famous.”

—Patty Larkin

“Who? Never heard of him.”

—John Prine

Craig is now traveling the country in support of his new CD, “Solo.”

Another great acoustic offering from one of the best performers performing! If you like this one, try:
CRAIG CAROTHERS WITH TIM ELLIS: acoustic set or THE CRAIG CAROTHERS TRIO: the craig carothers trio available here on CD Baby.

Great melodies, beautiful smooth voice - nice on the ears all the way around. Some of the songs are very funny and clever, some are disturbing, but all sound great. There's something about simple guitar and voice - it makes you feel like a friend is sitting on your couch playing for you.

Great CD from a great artist!
As always, Craig Carothers captures the perfect blend of humor and poignancy in his songs.

His songs make me want to slow down and listen to the beautiful stories he tells with his words. His voice is so calming and rich!! LOVE it!!

Good stuff
My gal and I saw Craig in Nashville, where he played 2 or 3 of the songs from this CD, notably She needs me. it's a great song, cute and loving at the same time, not an easy trick to pull off. He sounds a lot like David Wilcox and it's just him and a guitar for the most part and he's solid musically. I got the CD for her and she has it on heavy rotation

I\'m very happy with this CD...I bought it cold after following a link on Soncic Bids and seeing a video of Craig singing \"she needs me.\" I loved the song and had to get it for my husband. I am a huge fan of stripped down recordings of singers with just their guitars.
\"He Still Sees Her Younger\" is also a favorite.
This CD delivers!

Solo Album
I've followed this gifted musician's career for 30 and am always delighted when he makes it back to the Northwest. She Needs Me and Surprise, Surprise are two that stand out among many greats. If you love this, you need his latest "nothing fancy" which has a haunting song, entitled "Schenectady". My absolute favorite artist. His song writers in the round is not to be missed. He's brought some fantastic musicians including Angela Kasset and Dana Cooper. Thanks, Craig, for your growing list of personal favorite songs.
