ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Halifax based Celtic sister duo Cassie & Maggie MacDonald are thrilled to be back in their home province of Nova Scotia for the release of their sophomore album, Sterling Road. Their summer tour has taken them throughout the United States, Germany, Italy, Austria and Western Canada and they are delighted to announce that the official launch will take place at an outdoor concert August 2nd in Ballantyne’s cove, Antigonish NS.

In addition to showcasing the intricate and dynamic instrumental arrangements that have made them a much sought after act at festivals and venues around the world, the second studio recording from this “powerhouse duo” features four vocal tracks, capturing the energy and diversity of their live show. “We’ve grown so much as musicians and composers since the release of our first record (Fresh Heirs) and we wanted this album to reflect that. Maggie has really come into her own as a vocalist, the songs really showcase her voice and add such a unique element to the recording as a whole” -Cassie MacDonald
In the words of Irish legend Cyril O’Donohue with whom the girls toured extensively in Europe this summer “Your (Maggie’s) singing represents one of the most beautiful interpretations of a story through the human voice I have ever heard.”

Sterling Road was recorded in Toronto with Juno award nominated engineer and producer Andrew Collins. With Collins’ bluegrass background, this partnership produced a unique fusion of the girls’ trademark Celtic sound with a hint of bluegrass flavour. The result is a lively, engaging and diverse collection of original and traditional instrumentals and songs. In the words of veteran sound engineer and producer Al Strickland (who produced many of Rita MacNeil’s albums) Sterling Road is “a beautifully crafted album that showcases the diverse musicality of these two talented sisters”
