ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Visse Vasse vs. the jazz tradition.

Visse Vasse is a project born in Amsterdam (Holland) in 2002.
Filippo Castellazzi (Italian) and Niels Bjerg (Danish) recognized
in each other the same thirst for expanding the horizons of
jazz and improvised music.
With love to the jazz idiom they aim to take the style
into a new place. Their music, though at times
complicated, is very accessible to a broad audience.
It is evident that they love jazz, but they want it in their way!

The melodies are catchy and cleverly arranged for the
guitar duo. In some tunes on this record they choose to
add the Danish vocalist Birgitte Lyregaard and the
award winning Dutch saxophonist Tinneke Postma
(www.tinnekepostma.com).
The chamber music like setting makes the expression
compact and dynamic. It adds a twisted comment to the
classical music tradition too, but with a funny mix
between jazz and rock songs.

The Visse Vasse recording has a lyrical jazz atmosphere, but rock
songs like “Jeg Sov Under Værtindens Undertøj” (“I
slept under the lingerie of the hostess”) really blast
out of the speakers. And this is their aim: To comfort
the audience with beautiful compositions, but keep
them alert with odd surprises.
