Album Notes
All Girl Original Rock Band
From the 1980s - Forever

The Girls:
Gail Petersen (lead vocals/rhythm guitar)
Roxy Andersen (lead guitar/backing vocals)
Doreen Holmes (drums and percussion)

The Sound:
Powerful rock with a punk influence, strong pop melodies, pounding guitars, a driving beat and great girl vocals. Numerous listeners have compared the band’s sound to the likes of The Pretenders, The Killers, The Ramones, Blondie and Patti Smith.

The Story:
The Catholic Girls were born in the 1980s when schoolgirls Gail Petersen and Roxy Andersen put their guitars together to form the first all-female band from New Jersey that would be signed to a major label. With the edition of Doreen Holmes on drums, The Catholic Girls released an album on MCA both in the USA and Australia and also on a special Armed Forces edition by Radio Free Europe. They embarked on 2 national tours, received widespread commercial airplay, and debuted on MTV to the music of their new wave anthem Boys Can Cry. In 1999, Renaissance Records revived the original album in CD format. It’s success in chains such as Borders and websites like Amazon.com led to rapid sales and an impressive ranking. Fans of the band from The 80s were thrilled to have the girls in plaid back, and many new fans were made along the way. In 2002, the band released Make Me Believe as their first indie CD, embarked on a tri-state tour (NY/NJ/PA), opened for acts like Dave Davies of the Kinks, Gene Loves Jezebel and performed at The Knitting Factory in Hollywood for The International Pop Overthrow Festival. In addition the Asbury Park Music Awards nominated them for “Top Rock Band of the Year” and their latest video for the title song Make Me Believe reached the charts in Billboard. In 2004 their CD single Summer Vacation/Rock’n America (a tribute to Joey Ramone) was released nationally. It sold at a brisk pace and gained momentum with college and internet airplay and glowing reviews. Then Little Steven (of The E Street Band and Sopranos fame) saw the girls play live one night and instantly converted. He's been playing Rock'n America on a regular basis on his radio show The Underground Garage that is syndicated nationally and internationally. Bill Kelly, a long-time altar boy has also been broadcasting the single on Sirius Satellite Radio! Not to mention hundreds of college, internet, and commercial radio such as WRAT, WNTI, and WFMU.

Right Now:
The Catholic Girls are ready to spread the gospel of rock’n roll from The Vatican to Your Garage and beyond! Their latest full length CD, MEET THE CATHOLIC GIRLS was released 1/20/2006 an auspicious day in music history. The front cover recreates the photo from their first record with the three original members: Gail, Roxy, and Doreen on a school bus but wit a modern, psychedelic, sixties, twist. The CD features15 tracks that include something for everyone. There’s punk, garage, blues, pop, a ballad that will make you cry, A Chuck Berry influenced song about Linden, New Jersey and even a little Latin but it’s all Rock’ n and Roll to thee! The CD includes full lyric sheets that read like any girl’s confessions about: boys, heartbreak, pain, crushes, true love, true rejection, freedom, cars, rebellion, New Jersey, sex, and breaking loose with a guitar in hand on stage. A tour is in the works that will include national and international venues and so is a music video and a rockumentary. Recently, Little Steven’s Underground Garage featured the song Rock’nAmerica (from Meet The Catholic Girls) on The Coolest Songs in the World. The band’s latest CD, Airplay/Broken Record, released on Cinema Records, and recorded at Roxy’s Room Studios in Zuma Beach, is being played on radio, internet, and in clubs around the world. Their sound is powerful rock with a new wave/punk influence, strong pop melodies, intense lyrics, driving guitars, pounding drums, and great female vocals. Maybe there was a time when The Catholic Girls set out to prove they could play with the boys. But in 2009 The Catholic Girls prove again and again that they can break all the rules and rock the pants off anyone, anytime, anywhere!

From 4 to 5
I was originally going to give this catchy CD 4 stars. Then I heard "What Was the Matter." For me, that song gets a 5 star rating all by its lonesome!

Great Band
As usual, The Catholic Girls turn out more amazing music. It is not fair to call them a "girl band", as they are true artists. Gails lyrics have all the play of Alanis Morrisette, and the band backs it all up with drive of punk, rock and pop. It weaves another magical journey ...all the elements that made them such a unique force in the 80's....a must for my ITouch downloads!

Pure pop for now people
Nice to hear a girl band that isn't trying to copy Joan Jett for a change. The lyrics have a lot of angst but the music is peppy! I don't usually find many CDs that rate 5 stars, but the ballad on here actually made me feel a bit misty, so... (Hope it's not autobiographical.)

how to be crazy in love in 1 easy step
The old song says, nothing maters in the whole world when your in love with a jersey girl. Well how about three Huh? remember all the way back when the CGS were new and on WSOU from saeten hall with a DJ named Denise Koil. Well good to have our favorite lovelys in Plaid back. I love you ladies.

FINALLY! A girl-group that's not ashamed of sounding like girls!
This CD hasn't left my player since I got it a couple weeks back. First, the design of the CD (I won't spoil the surprise) is very cool and appropriate to the music. Influences abound, from the Ramones to the Shangri-Las to the B-52s to Chuck Berry, yet not derivative of any of them. Instead, the influences are absorbed into an original sound. This is a band that, if you were blindfolded and heard a new song, you'd be able to guess their identity easily. There's a number of potential singles here. Infectious choruses, potent hooks, nice harmonies, good production. Not much like this out there! This CD is a breathe of fresh air. Y'know, in writing this, I all of a sudden have the urge to go listen to it again!

Great Band
Its not fair to label the Catholic Girls as just another all girl band....they are true artitst. Gail's lyrics have all the power and play of Alanis Morrisette and the band has the drive of punk, rock, and pop as needed. All of the elements are here that made their debut in the 80's so refreshing. These songs weave into a musical journey leaving you wanting more. A must download!!
