Album Notes
The Casco Bay Tummlers, from Portland, Maine, have been performing klezmer music for over fifteen years. they have been featured performers at festivals in Germany, Italy, Lithuania and Slovenia in addition to numerous concert performances in the northeastern US.

The Tummlers have a unique sound and a stage performance that features all members of the band. Steve Gruverman brings an extensive background in ethnic dance music to his soulful clarinet playing. Carl Dimow has developed a unique klezmer flute style, in addition to his contributions as a guitarist, composer and arranger. Julie Goell has a rich background in theater and jazz that comes out both in her bass playing and in her vocal features. Nancy 3. Hoffman brings a playfulness which audiences love to both her accordion playing and her singing. Hayes Porterfield keeps the traditional role as drummer happening with elements of jazz and improvisation.

"Journey", the Tummlers third CD marks a new phase in their development. The liner notes are the best description of this CD:

"When listeners think of klezmer music, they often picture the dawn of the 20th century: old world shtetls, immigrant flats and the birth of recorded music. Yet here we are, well into the beginning of a new century, playing this music in a very changed and changing world. As musicians, we draw on the history and tradition of this music while bringing our own experiences to it. We hope to offer something that speaks to you, our listeners.

This recording moves forward and back - in time and place, in spirit, and in mood. there are some classic traditional tunes, some old tunes reinvented, a number of original pieces, a Ladino song and a couple of visits to musical cousins from Greece and macedonia. The CD begins with some serious reflections and gradually moves on to a big party, followed by a lullaby.
Enjoy the journey."
