Together with claw-hammer banjo picker and singer Yani Batteau, violinist Noor O’Neill Borbieva, and bassist John Minkle, Collins combines spoken word with music to forge a new tradition.

Collins has received numerous awards and honors, including an emerging artist award from the Cambridge Arts Council. The poem “Promised Candy,” included on this album, was named Best Narrative Poem, Cambridge Poetry Awards. The track “Blood Orange” has been featured on National Public Radio’s show “Here & Now.”

Guest artists include Zack Nyman, guitar; Eric Kilburn, guitar, mandolin, and harmonica; Dave Rizzuiti, guitar; and Jason Williams, percussion.

The CD includes a 20-page full-color booklet with lyrics and reproductions of vintage Kentucky postcards.

Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from each compact disc will be donated to the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition - http://www.ohvec.org - to help fight against mountaintop removal mining.

Good traveling music
On roadtrips, this CD goes with us. Each track is distinct and allows us to mix the images of the outside roadside with the musicality and poetry of the inside sound to add a real take-a-trip feel to hours behind the wheel. Good experience.

"A fantastic integration of bluegrass music and poetry -- true talent"
I could listen to CD Collins' voice reading to me from her heart forever. I love this CD. It's a fantastic integration of naturally-transcending bluegrass music and the beautiful and suprising-when-you-turn-the-corner words, which are the poetry of her soul. She is a true talent.

Brilliant: accessible yet provocative.
Yet again, CD Collins showcases her genius for creating subtle shifts in voice to evoke subtleties of mood in this accessible yet provocative CD. Her pieces are completely absorbing and successful because they lure the listener into trying on the perspectives of a disparate cast of characters. CD wins us over with her mature empathy and striking intelligence. She's the real deal.
