ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Celeste Ray, a native of Los Angeles, began her musical studies at the age of six. Her main influences include Pat Metheny, Enya and Loreena McKennitt.

Travels throughout Europe inspired Arthurian legendry/poetry and music to produce "The Gateway". This CD creates an eclectic combination of rich Celtic tones from traditional instruments such as flute, recorder, oboe and cello, with the sound of world instruments such as dumbek, bohdran and pennywhistles. Celeste Ray's piano performance, vocals and psaltery arrangements captivated long-time meantor, Paul McCandless, who expressed "Celeste's melodic compositions, and especially her vocals, give the music a sound which is instantly identifiable...I am impressed!"

Celeste has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City under the direction of John Rutter, the Govorner of Queensland, Australia and international ABC radio.

Celeste has been written up in international publications including New Age and New Sounds and a recent Los Angeles Times article described Celeste's music as "a sound at once fresh and other-worldly...her distinctive calling card is her skill with the bowed psaltery"

Celeste Ray's recent CD, with "Celtic Legend Ensemble" inspired by travels to the Celtic Lands and ancient poetry - crosses many boundaries, from eastern Indian to classical and folk stylings.

Green Egg

Celeste Howard opens the gateway with her adept fusion of Celtic Folk...
Her compositions include music for a variety of instruments and her melodic arrangements and vocal harmonies are impressive. This is not an aggressive or intrusive music, rather, it beckons soothingly to the gateway.

Kick back, relax, and travel through The Gateway - Maerian Morris
