Album Notes
Critics from DownBeat Magazine, Jazz Times and All About Jazz have praised international award winning saxophonist, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, for his sideman work, describing his solos as “exquisite” and further exclaiming that his playing “steals the show.” After being recognized as a “fixture on the city’s jazz scene,” it is clear that Chad's unprecedented technical ability, expressive tone, and adventurous grasp of harmony make him one of today's most exciting saxophonists. Now, Chad is releasing his much anticipated debut album “Imagery Manifesto.” Like a book, Chad's storytelling compositions propel the listener into an uninhibited dream world of their own making. His album features rising star musicians, including trumpet prodigy Adam O’Farrill, and acclaimed bassist, Linda Oh. Together, these extraordinary musicians contribute a piece of their musical identity to the album; helping to usher in a unique approach to modern jazz.
Chad grew up in Elmira, New York where he began playing with local jazz legend, George Reed, at the age of ten, and won his first DownBeat Student Music award at age eleven. By the time he graduated from the Brubeck Fellowship Program in California, Chad had won 15 DownBeat awards, and had performed at Carnegie Hall, the GRAMMY Awards, North Sea Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, and many other prestigious venues around the globe. He now lives in New York City where he performs and records on many projects throughout New York City and abroad. Chad recently recorded as a sideman for Ron McClure (Charles Lloyd/Joe Henderson) and Clarence Penn (Michael Brecker/Dave Douglas) and has appeared in concerts with distinguished musicians such as Dave Brubeck, McCoy Tyner, Christian McBride, Josh Groban, and Arturo O’Farrill’s GRAMMY winning Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.
