ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“Annie Sellick is very much a jazz singer but she is also a storyteller and her rendition of emotionally complex songs is masterful…she is also a stunning visual performer” - Roger Crane the L.A. Jazz Scene

So, in the studio, for this album, we smashed a wine glass and recorded it. We scraped plastic cups over concrete and recorded it. We raked a metal pole over the HVAC intake grate and recorded it. A lot of that appears in "Knock on the Door". Oh my. We had some fun.

This Nashville native and jazz vocalist releases a new recording project “Big Big Time - The Songs of Tom Sturdevant Vol. 2”. Having collaborated with friend and hero Chris Walters (piano - check out his stuff oh my goodness he's amazing - lrrrrv) to arrange and record the music of Tom Sturdevant (one of her best friends - sometimes I think he's my "most necessary friend." He refers to us as "The Geezer and the Girl"), this album is Annie’s eighth and IS....drumroll please... hands down most eclectic and original project to date. You’ve heard her in town or abroad with her six-piece swing band Annie and the Hot Club (who also made an album of the songs of Tom Sturdevant and guess what folks, it's also available for you right here on CDBaby! ).

Since her musical beginning in Murfreesboro, TN having “sat in” with the late guitarist Roland Gresham Sr. and hired on the spot (that guy ROCKED. Biggest hands you ever saw. Played like Wes Montgomery and wore polyester plaid pants), she was voted “Best Jazz Vocalist” by readers of the Nashville Scene five years in a row. She sang for a sold out crowd with the Nashville symphony. She was the resident vocalist for the Nashville Jazz Orchestra for eleven years. Grassroots spread like wildfire and she started making guest appearance with big bands around the country. She’s toured with Mark O’Connor’s Hot Swing, recorded albums and performed with jazz luminaries Joey DeFrancesco, Gerald Clayton, the Jeff Hamilton Trio, Akira Tana and Tommy Emmanuel, with whom she is the featured performer for his Christmas Classics Tour.
