ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The long awaited release of Chanda Cooper’s second full-length album ‘Shed Your Shy’ has finally arrived! "Chanda Cooper weaves together an eclectic blend of folk and celtic, interspersed with colours of classical and roots music. Her simple, honest poetry combines with rich and powerful music, to take us on her poignant journey of faith and love. Whimsy and deep passion join to create an album one cannot stop listening to. Part Jewel, part Rory Block, she is like the Uber Indie-Chick - one who can actually sing, play and has something profound to say." -Lori Mohacsy (Singer, Actor and daughter of radio personality Tony Biamonte)

‘Shed Your Shy’ was recorded at the Norwood Studio in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta. The album was co-produced by Chanda Cooper and the wonderful and multi-faceted Chris Wynters, who mixed and engineered the album. Chris is a singer, songwriter, composer and producer, not to mention the founder of Captain Tractor, one of Alberta’s most successful indie bands (selling an excess of 60,000 records). They began recording ‘Shed Your Shy’ in July of 2009 and quickly formed a mutual-respect for each other’s music. Since then, Chanda has participated with Chris on his latest solo project to be released in summer of 2010. The two artists plan for further collaborations in the future.

The first experience with “Shed Your Shy” will envelop the listener in a haunting, emotional encounter evoked by Chanda’s pure voice and poignant lyrics. Lyrics that have been shaped by the good, the bad, and the woe of life. As these interweave with the permeating sounds of the cello, performed by Martin Johann Kloppers, a cord is formed that holds the album together from beginning to end. Fans of Chanda’s will notice quickly the evolution of her talent since her first album ‘Beyond’ (2004) as they are caught up in the honest journey upon which they are invited to sing out loud in the shower, in their car, or with friends, leaving behind their own timidity as fellow sojourners on the pathway of life.

As a self-taught artist, Chanda’s musical roots go back to her childhood where she found herself always singing, whether in the rain or the sun or in the back of her family's 1958 camperized school bus. She continues to surprise those who stumble upon this down-to-earth and virtually undiscovered gem! She is slowly and unassumingly making her way into the independent music scene sharing the stage with such talented performers as Craig Cardiff, Josh Garrels, Amy Seeley, and more! When you purchase the album “Shed Your Shy” you can rest in the assurance that you are supporting a truly independent artiste and helping fuel the ever-growing fire of quality independent Canadian music.
