ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Broadway actress and film star CHARLEENE CLOSSHEY’s debut holiday album “Christmas Time is Here” sparkles and shines with the depth of emotion we all feel at the holidays, with joyous warming spirit sitting across from the chilly melancholy of memory. The sounds are grounded in truth, pushing conventionality of what a Christmas song “should sound like”.

The album’s first radio single “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” penetrated the 2018 Mediabase Main Stream AC Chart peaking at #18 alongside Pentatonix, John Legend, Katy Perry, Sia, and Straight No Chaser. This year, a remixed and remastered updated version hits holiday airwaves in the U.S., UK, Western Europe, and Australia, showcasing Closshey’s angelic vocals “feeling almost a bygone era” and lush orchestral sound. Produced by 6 time Grammy winner Brent Maher (Tina Turner, The Judds), the track shines with Closshey’s own arrangement of the classic Johnny Marks’ holiday tune and Bulgaria’s National Orchestra and Choir performers.

A classically-trained violinist, pianist, and vocalist, Charleene has released multiple albums and singles across musical genres. Closshey’s “Christmas Time is Here” releases worldwide November 1, 2019 featuring Steinway Artist pianist Derek Wieland (TransSiberian Orchestra), Israeli drummer Nir “Z” Zidkyahu (Genesis, Blake Shelton, Chris Cornell), and Australian guitarist Joe Robinson (Tommy Emmanuel).

2020 will see Closshey’s multi-format album "Only Love Remains" produced by Grammy winner Brent Maher and featuring her Bulgarian orchestra and choir release world wide. Crossing formats, these tracks fuse classical music, Americana sounds, and folk storytelling sensibilities bringing to life songs penned by songwriters Tia Sillers (“I Hope You Dance”), Mark Selby (“There’s Your Trouble”, “Blue on Black”), and Closshey herself.

Closshey’s diverse classical music training began at age 2 on piano - she read music before she read words. She’s played violin with artists including Josh Groban, the TransSiberian Orchestra, Jon Secada, Ricky Skaggs, and Frank Sinatra, Jr., and even dueled fiddles with Charlie Daniels. Twice. She's sung opera in Rome. Her original compositions lauded to "break the mold" have been performed by National Orchestras on international stages and have even blessed by Pope Francis at the Vatican.
Beyond music, Closshey is an actress of film and stage most recently known for her work in indie dramedy "No Postage Necessary" (the first film in history to release on the blockchain with cryptocurrency), a project in which she starred, produced, and composed the music score. Released in 2014, Closshey co-produced and starred in feature film "An Evergreen Christmas" (Netflix), receiving a Best Actress Nomination at the California Independent Film Festival; she also composed this film’s score and arranged much of the film’s soundtrack. Closshey debuted on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning musical "Once" in 2014 later joining the National Tour. She produced, starred in, and composed the score for the musical "Feather: A Musical Portrait", an immersive show fusing theatre with film, music, and live portrait painting. “Feather” made its U.S. premiere Off Broadway at the 2013 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

A lover of what some call Fantasy, Closshey relishes in the mysteries and magic of life drawing on her Irish roots for a Celtic sound. With an “intelligent, soulful, and inspiring” perspective and “a gentle simplicity and innocence that devastates with a look, a word, and even just in the stillness”, critics tout “she evokes a vulnerability and emotional poignancy that’s never forced” so “keep all eyes on her!”
