Album Notes
It is my pleasure to present a variety of serene piano classics of various composers. These pieces are intended for easy classical listening and enjoyment. From Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" to the beautifully composed Clair de Lune and Arabesque No. 1 by Debussy, each of the pieces on this disc represent thoughtful daydreams. I chose two of Frederic Chopin's Nocturnes, or "night pieces," one of the great instigators of the form. These pieces represent all of the beautiful colors of nocturnal rest. His famous "Raindrop" Prelude also depicts what some believe to be gentle rainfall. Erik Satie's Gymnopedies (Nos. 1 and 3 on this disc) were originally composed for piano, but given their beautiful melodies also have been recomposed for other instruments. Beethoven's "Pathetique" Sonata, Movement II, is certainly one of his best known melodies and its peaceful beauty captures the essence of his lyrical writing. MacDowell's "To a Wild Rose" is a contemplative thought upon seeing a wild rose. It is my hope that you enjoy these gentle classics of the great composers.
