Album Notes
On this recording I have played standard tunes from the North American Songbook. These truly great tunes offer a fantastic potential for development which I have tried to fulfill. "Have You Met Miss Jones" (Rodgers and Hart) is a good example. This song there contains a possible reference to the John Coltrane harmonic forms, which I’ve exploited in the "turnarounds" throughout. The title track, "It Could Happen To You," (Burke/Van Heusen) is developed with (properly) voiced diminished chords that propel the song along, adding color that I like to work with. The style of this solo piano set emerges from the influence of a broad base of musicians in the jazz world, but especially that of jazz pianists. First and foremost in this regard is Bill Evans, with Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Fats Waller, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Bud Powell, Chick Corea and many others also lending their inspiration. My long ago involvement with classical piano studies is in the mix as well, especially in the contrapuntal layers of voice leading.

I enjoyed recording this music and I hope you enjoy listening. We keep on Swingin’ !!
