ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
My music and lyrics are a synthesis of theatrical experiences, smaller classical and jazz instrumental ensembles, and inspirations from cherished influences such as Monteverdi, Beethoven, Schubert, Dvorak, Debussy, Stravinsky, Joplin, Gershwin, Charlie Parker and Sondheim, to name only a few.

Since 1996, I've collaborated on many productions with playwright and lyricist Barbara Zinn Krieger for the award-winning New York City Children's Theater.

During our rich collaboration, Barbara has crafted stories situated in Victorian England, Nazi-occupied France, Mexico and New York. Her work has featured such characters as modern dance innovator Jose Limon, and, in the show Sky Boys, the Mohawk Indian steel riveters who worked atop the 100th floor of the Empire State Building in 1931.

Following my collaborator's example, I've written songs that sketch the personalities and situations heard on this CD (i.e., "Male Songs of Middle Age-Crazy!”). My characters – mostly middle-aged males – run the gamut of sweet and funny to remorseful and dysfunctional. There’s also one highly sympathetic female.

As for the eight instrumental pieces? I'll let their titles, variety and musicality speak for themselves.
