Album Notes
Charlie Y Charlie all began with two complete total strangers. Some may say that Carlos and Charles Lopez have met each other coincidently, but we like to say it was meant to happen. Charlie Y Charlie’s beginnings originate on an airfield at Hickam Air Force Base while on duty. To discover each other’s raw talents they spent the day freestlying using only a cell phone ringer as an instrumental. The following day Carlos and Charles Lopez proceeded to record their first collaboration. From there the refinement of skills and collage of ideas initiated a constant steady pace of writing and producing numerous tracks. To pursue their goals of reaching the main stream media, Charlie Y Charlie produced their first three song demo which was sent to numerous industry leading producers in Puerto Rico. Using only a desktop computer and a microphone in a closet, Charlie Y Charlie composed a five song sampler CD which has caught the ears of producers, promoters, and artists which still to this day is in circulation through underground copies. While promoting their sampler on the Waikiki strip, Charlie Y Charlie encountered a freelance promoter which provided them with their first opportunity to perform live at the Blue Tropics Night Club. After performing, several networking opportunities were rendered, and from there Charlie Y Charlie have been on the scene. Even though reggaeton is a newborn genre, Charlie Y Charlie have established a reputation for making the crowd move. A rapid growing fan base has been cultivated and currently is on a constant rise. Charlie Y Charlie’s first full length album was released in feburary 2006. The album contains a mixture of reggaeton, Hip-Hop and tropical sounds. With help from “No Mercy Record’s” leading producer, Chris Deshields, Charlie Y Charlie have compiled a production guaranteed to leave music lovers yearning for more. Charlie Y Charlie‘s music is currently playing on radio stations in Puerto Rico and Washington state and guaranteed to be broadcasted nationwide. These two professional individuals handle all business themselves but are very open minded and cooperative . Charlie Y Charlie are the newest and first hottest reggaeton duo in Hawaii. Expect more to come.

Carlos Lopez and Charles Lopez cover all the topics usually addressed in contemporary hip hop with the "18 tracks of realism" on this polished debut album. They're not related, but both are of Puerto Rican ethnicity, and they rock the mic in fluent Spanish as well as English. Several tracks have good Latin dance rhythms and merit play by Hawaii's Hispanic radio programmers.
The duo shares the spotlight in expounding on their determination to succeed in the music business, their sexual prowess, their appreciation of female beauty and their stature as two guys who take no disrespect from anybody. Some of the lyric images are one-size-fits-all, but the duo succeeds in personalizing most of them.

"If Puerto Rico Was the World" approaches a familiar premise from a different direction. "Mililani" adds hot Latin instrumentation to an age-old hapa-haole fantasy. Remember Kid Frost's epic "East Side Story," or Ray Barretto's 1963 cross-over hit, "El Watusi?" There's some of that type of thing here.

Although they're clearly pros, Charlie y Charlie don't take themselves too seriously. They announce on the intro track that they're looking for a deal with a major label, and that the title of their next album will be "Signed" if they get it and "Still Unsigned" if they don't.

DJ ICKY gives the duo solid bi-cultural musical support. The only questionable element is the duo's use of the "N-word" when referring to each other.
