ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Stark Raving Celtic pumps passion you can feel into Scotland's swarthy battle music and Ireland's lyrical melodies.
Charmas originally just set out to record their best stage music from the years 2013-2017. but once the band started inviting contributions from its past members, theme show guests, and local musician friends, the project grew far beyond anyone's expectations.
Stark Raving Celtic is a "concept album," best enjoyed by lava-lamplight with a pint of strong ale, but also great for a long road-trip or wearing headphones in bed.
Guest vocalist Richard Dwyer opens this wild ride with a stark rendition of traditional Irish song The Auld Triangle.
Then hang onto your Glens, with Great Highland Bagpipes, marching drums, and manly man-singers pounding testosterone into an anthem for Scottish Heavy Athletes.
Aaron Clegg cools things down with his delicate wooden flute playing En Dro "The Turn," but only for one round, before the music gradually rebounds into full-on Celtic rock.
Time stands still during Philip Johnston's American-folk rendition of traditional Irish song She Moved Through The Fair.
Then Lee Corbie-Wells offers an interlude of femininity, singing about a Scottish Alaskan woman whose hard luck caused her to end up sleeping beneath a tree overhanging the Pacific Ocean.
Traveling farther toward the sunset, Huna Alaka'i Jeffrey Ferrell sings a traditional Hawaiian chant to introduce Mike Long's Irish reel The Road to Hana (performed by Mike's own Celtic trio, Dance Around Molly), with accompaniment by Stephen Vahle on the talking drum.
Halfway around the globe, Mick O'Broain revisits guitarist Jim Powell's memorable evening in a Welsh Brains pub.
Returning to California, Aaron Clegg sings a fan-ballad composed for Scottish fiddler Johny Hardie (whose Old Blind Dogs first introduced bandleader Elise MacGregor Ferrell to Celtic music).
Charmas co-founder Matt Johnson plays tenor banjo for two instrumental sets that were early Charmas favorites - including The Meeting of Old Friends
The blues take over during Mick O'Broain's flying visit to Spancil Hill, Ireland.
Great Highland Bagpipes introduce a full-tilt version of Aaron Clegg singing traditional Scottish song Willie's Gone Awa, followed by Spootiskerry played on the bagpipes.
And finally, Memories in the Wind induces a polyrhythmic trance that will leave you wondering where Charmas is going next...
