Album Notes
The music of Chelsea Saddler wears dusty, old, leather boots, gravel in the soles, and holes worn in the toe. As Chelsea Saddler played a one hour set on NPR's Roots and Branches, she described her greatest influences being Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and her "behind closed doors" musician father and one can hear the ghost of each in the sultry, smoky voice of Chelsea, bass notes reverberating from her guitar, and forget she is only 26 years old.
Chelsea was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida and released her first album in 2007 titled "A Good Woman". She began playing guitar at 12 years old and was classically trained until she found that she needed more expression, more soul, just...more. So at that time Chelsea began writing songs on napkins, match books, filling hundreds of pages with songs and lyrics that were about more than just the "pop/love" ballads of her generation.
Chelsea has been featured in Folio Weekly, Skirt Magazine, and the Florida Times Union as well as various online write ups. When closing your eyes, listening to Chelsea sing about being an old convict in "Railroad Blues" you get taken away into her intense and enlightening story telling. Not just another folk singer- songwriter, Chelsea Saddler has performed from the coast of Florida, across Georgia and the Carolinas, survived Nashville and taken a bow and some praise as she left, just to end up in her favorite town of Johnson City, Tennessee, picking up country, blue grass, soul and rock inspirations along the way. The music of this tiny bodied, thick voiced woman is one that needs to be experienced, heard, and analyzed time and time again, and will be. Just wait for the day when you can look back and say, "Oh yeah, I knew Chelsea Saddler when she used to play at..."
