David Chenu, saxophonist and clarinetist, is widely sought after as a performer, educator, and arranger with over two hundred performances a year.

His jazz ensemble, The David Chenu Quartet, performs in many popular jazz venues and festivals, as well as numerous concerts, clinics, and private events. Their first CD, simply titled “ONE”, was released in 2003, and features all original compositions. Their second CD, "TWO", also of all original music, is due out in late 2006. David and his group have been voted as one of the top ten horn players and jazz bands respectively in the Austin Chronicle’s 2002-3, 2003-4, 2004-5, and 2005-6 Austin Music Awards.

In addition to his own band, you can also hear David performing regularly with many other groups of all styles including Olivier Giraud's Django Reinhardt influenced project, Paris 49, jazz singer Seela and her band Torch, and with nationally touring polka band Terry Cavanagh and the Alpine Express.

Notable performances include a stint at Disneyland Paris, performing for Jessica Simpson’s Instyle wedding, opening for saxophone legend David “Fathead” Newman, opening and performing with Jimmie Vaughan, performing with Texas Playboy Johnny Gimble, and performing with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band Lynyrd Skynyrd.

After two Texas All-State appearances in high school, David was the recipient of a full scholarship to the prestigious University of North Texas School of Music and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in jazz performance in 2000.

Jay Trachtenberg, Austin Chronicle

Young local saxman David Chenu is someone to keep your eye on. If his debut, One, is any indication, he should have a bright future ahead. Most noteworthy are his original compositions, which place him firmly in a modernist mode with an occasional nod to the blues. Chenu proves to be a solid player, well versed in this expressive language. The duet gigs played by Chenu and guitarist Jacob Wise bear fruit here in the compatible interplay that shines throughout the date. With this fine debut, we should eagerly anticipate chapter two.

One is a one-of-a-kind gem!
There are some great jazz CDs out there, but rarely have I come across a CD of such class, elegance, and sophistication as this! One is a one-of-a-kind gem!

Great jazz,nice variety.
This cd is so cool it's HOT.It reminds me of all the old jazz greats but in a modern way.I could listen to this a hundred times in a row and not get bored with it.Every time I play it I pickup some new little rif or something I didn't catch before. If you like jazz, you'll love this cd.

Lindsey Durway

Excellent and distinctive!
The interplay between Chenu (sax) & Wise (guitar) is rich and fluid. They complement each other well. Friedrich (drums) and Scott (bass), meanwhile, divide the rhythm work evenly between them, Scott holding it all together and Friedrich setting up a tension that keeps things from getting predictable. It's an engaging mix, and I hope to hear more from them in the future.
