ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"No more of the bass/middle/tune stack that’s almost universally heard with these songs. The whole CD is liberated from that, though I’m amazed sometimes at the guitarist, who (with great good humor, as it seems to me) can pretty much sketch the texture of a big band, bass very much included. The sax commentary (if I can call it that) is so deft and wistful.

She’s such a fine singer. She could of course ace these songs in some conventional setting, and may well, for all I know, do that sometimes. But how wonderful that she wants to do them this way."
