Album Notes
It is indeed trying for many to portray Chet, & their love thereof, with the necessary lack of emotion that makes for effective critique. Describing Chet's droning beauty & phenomenal sultry, crooning vocals at face value seems moot when faced with the overwhelming urge to relate personal experience; the feeling of first hearing Kau'ai & just how frighteningly similar it rang to an embrace with an old friend, or the feeling of having been torn apart & put neatly back together, richer for the experience. As slow & deliberate as any loving moment and as disarming as the sound of your mother singing softly some rooms away, Chet create soulful music that is as overtly, undeniably gorgeous as it is stunningly personable.

In Kauai, lethargic, haunting and orchestral grace stirs in the vast expanses between familial love, passion, man and woman, trial and failure. Ryan Beattie's vocal abilities thrive amongst the cello, organ, reverb, saturated guitars & modest drums that flesh out their warm sound, filling every moment with a tender, grandiose breadth. With its initial release, Kauai inspired massive critical acclaim, earning Chet opening slots for the likes of Wolf Parade, Modest Mouse, Smog, Feist, Low, Chad Vangaalen, Frog Eyes and the Arcade Fire, and even the spot of #8 on the National College Radio Charts. Now officially back in stock on the Aaargh! Records imprint, Kauai continues to melt hearts with ease & grace.

"[Kau'ai] is as original as it is fascinating, from the sleepy reverb of the guitar to the haunting cello and menacing organ to Ryan Beattie's unique signature vocals." - Brand X Media
