Album Notes
CHIA’s Dance Party is a New York City-based Quintet/Sextet. The band delivers a unique musical experience where infectious danceable grooves mix harmoniously with extensive compositional and improvisational work. The band performs original material inspired by the Colombian rhythmic and melodic traditions, yet explores different genres and compositional approaches. CHIA's Dance Party has a distinct sound as a result of the diverse background of its musicians. Ben Stapp, an exceptional tuba player brings his vast experience in experimental, Jazz, classical and rock music. Alex Terrier on soprano saxophone delivers the best, virtuosic sounds of modern jazz. Justin Wood on alto sax and flute adds adventurous and fearless contemporary sounds and concepts. Rafi Malkiel on Euphonium brings his Middle Eastern, "Salsa Dura", Jazz and Colombian sounds and techniques to complement this stellar ensemble. All of these sounds are catalyzed by musical director, Martín Vejarano on Drums and compositions. The band also features the sounds of very special guests such as Terry Greene II on Trombone and Jeremy Udden & Federico Ochoa on Soprano Saxs. The Band performs regularly in New York City venues as well as in the near states of New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. In November 29th 2010 Chia's Dance Party had the privileged of being selected as the "House Band" for the annual Winter's Eve at Lincoln Square performing for over 4 hours and appearing in National Television.
The band has recently released its debut album "La Miel" under the label Chia Records. Chia's Dance Party has become one of the most popular and admired "brass bands" of the New York City's World Jazz scene. ENJOY!!!
