Album Notes
This recording is essentially Volume II and (or) the extension my previous CD, "Double Dedication" with my compositions for nine more jazz artists who inspired me, and a corresponding poem on the second disc.

"More Dedications" is a two-disc set. The music is on disc 1 (tracks 1-9 on this page) and the poems, with the music in the background, are on disc 2 (tracks 10-18 on this page).

Dedication – Bags
He often came to see us with Houston Person and Etta Jones, whose singing he loved dearly. He saw and bought a copy of my book, I’m Just the Drummer in the Band, and asked me to autograph it. I felt like I was heading in the right direction.

Dedication –Tony
He was one of my biggest influences on percussion, along with Max Roach, Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, and Elvin Jones.

Dedication – Vanessa D.
She was the vocalist in the original Chip White Ensemble, and I just loved her sound.

Chip White
Chip White began studying percussion with his father at the age of nine, and moved on to music theory and harmony with Vincent Corozine in high school. He studied with Alan Dawson, Charlie Mariano, Herb Pomeroy, and Freddie Buda of the Boston Symphony at the Berklee School of Music. He later studied orchestration and arranging with Frank Foster.

Chip has performed and/or recorded with a variety of artists, including Carman McCrae, Jaki Byard, the Jazzmobile CETA Big Band, Candido, John Abercrombie, Frank Wess, Frank Foster, Frank Vicari, John Faddis, Chet Baker, Bill Hardman, Junior Cook, Claudio Roditi, Dave Liebman, James Moody, Tom Waits, Kim & Marion, Enrico Rava, Jimmy McGriff, Mulgrew Miller, Gary Bartz, John Hicks, Walter Bishop Jr., Ronnie Matthews, Al Grey, Benny Powell, Teddy Edwards, Craig Handy, Klaus Ignatzek, Houston Person and Etta Jones, Irene Reid, and Savion Glover. He has toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, and Japan.

This recording is Chip’s fourth as a leader and composer. The others are "Harlem Sunset" (Postcards, 1994), "Music and Lyrics" (Dark Colors, 2005), and "Double Dedication" (Dark Colors, 2008). The poems on Chip’s CDs come from his book of more than 100 poems for famous jazz musicians, "I’m Just the Drummer in the Band."

Like "Double Dedication", this album is an exquisite tribute to the musicians who have been honored here. Mr. White's uncompromising commitment to the integrity of the music makes the CD a real treat for the jazz afficionado, as well as those who would like to broaden their appreciation of the music. This is one of the very best albums I have ever had the pleasure of owning!

More Dedications
In addition to the review I wrote of the music on this album, Chip's poetry is also very enjoyable. In a playful way, Chip pays tribute to each of the artists on the music disc with all of the knowledge, respect, and admiration that those who love them also can appreciate. The tributes come from one who truly knows and loves jazz and is adept in expressing it in a unique and skillful way. As with the music, the poetry is not to be missed.

This album is a real pleasure to hear. Not only is Chip playing with the best in the field, but it is apparent how much they enjoyed playing the music, which is to Chip's credit as composer, arranger, and performer. The songs themselves pay a high tribute to each of the musicians Chip chose to honor in a way that was both true to their style and given room for each of the players to express their own admiration for the subject of each song. The music is great and the playing is phenomenal. If you love jazz, you won't want to miss this album.
