Album Notes
We have devoted the last four years to producing never-before-recorded music that follows traditional Brazilian choro instrumental styles. This effort has produced Boas Novas (Good News), Boca de Goiaba (Guava Mouth) and Pé de Choro (Choro Tree).

Now we have produced Impressões (Impressions). It incorporates our impressions of other styles of music, including forró (from northeastern Brazil), chamamé (from northern Argentina), European styles such as romance and musette, and even American jazz inspired by Benny Goodman.
In making Impressões, we have expanded our circle. For example, we have been playing music with Danilo Brito since we went to our first roda de choro more than 15 years ago, but we have never made a record with him until now. Danilo plays Waldir Azevedo style cavaquinho on “O Ceu de Waldir” on Track 9 of Impressões.
As another example, one night we invited our newer musical friend Thadeu Romano to our house for dinner. He started humming a tune, Elisa picked it up and added to it. Elisa and Thadeu smiled, giggled and traded musical ideas throughout the meal.
Then between dessert and coffee, they wrote out the score. You can hear the result as "Festa no Chiqueiro" on Track 14 of
Yet another surprise came when Leroy Amêndola showed up at our local roda de choro (jam session). To us, Leroy was a famous musician we've been listening to since we were children. He told us he was considering to move close to our town! At the next roda de choro he brought a piece he wrote. We were excited to learn it. It is "Forró Barroco" on Track 1 of Impressões.

So you can see that the making of Impressões made many wonderful impressions on us. We hope the music will make an impression on you too.
