ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This album obviously is for anyone who enjoys golf and all the humorous slang and stories that go along with the game.

Chris Cates captures the deviously wonderful hilarity that happens during any given trip to the golf course.

Building fun songs around golf course lingo like "Texas Wedge", "Tree Trouble" and "Chunky Monkey", Cates takes insider jokes and spins them into funny songs that can also educate the unknowing.
For the hardcore, "Golf Superintendent Song" perfectly captures the feelings of the unseen heroes of most golf clubs while “Donald Ross Song” pays tribute and pokes a little bit of good natured fun at the legendary golf course designer.
Another tribute to the legendary links of Pinehurst, North Carolina (Cates’s home state) is eloquently delivered in “Pinehurst and the Golf God”
Cates flexes his story telling muscle in the side splitting tale of a patchouli oil and tie die wearing, Grateful Dead listening old money relative who returns to the stuffy old school country club. In “Hippie at the Country Club”, not only does the smelly protagonist win the member guest with a Rastafarian; he also wins the club championship and surprises the members by (you’ll have to listen to find out).
“Triple Bogey”, another story telling song and “Three Putt King” are two songs reprised as acoustic versions from Cates’ other golf album “Triple Bogey with 17 Holes to Play”. These have been the two most popular tunes in Cates’s journey around the golf world playing concerts at golf events and country clubs.
“Bury Me in the Bunker” is a fun up tempo take on last will and testament, golf style, and Golf Machine (The Srixon Shark) is about that guy that always wins the money games somehow (even when you get him drunk).
Cates leaves things on a positive note with “Swing Thoughts”, parting with some cheeky golf tips (not to be taken seriously) while repeating a positive mantra of a chorus: “I’m gonna hit it straight, I’m gonna hit it straight, I’m gonna hit it straight, By God this time I’m gonna hit it straight”.

So basically, if you’re a golfer, Funny Golf Songs Vol. 1 is a perfect compliment to that fifth driver you just put in the bag.
