Album Notes
Notes by Scott Yanow, author of nine jazz books including Jazz On Record 1917-76, Jazz on Film, and Trumpet Kings

"It is always a happy occasion when a new instrumentalist appears on the jazz scene who revitalizes his or her instrument and points towards the future. While there are many trombonists around, only a select few are offering new ideas. Chris Dempsey, who makes his recording debut as a leader on Onward, has the technique to play whatever he thinks of, a fertile imagination, and a warm sound. He does not sound like any of his predecessors and his compositions are fresh and new."

"It seems clear, based on his impressive debut, that Chris Dempsey will be making important contributions to the future evolution of the trombone."

Mello.. fresh..contemplative without being indulgent. what instrument are you playing- I am picking up jazz with my Conn Constellation 92 - in my books the ultimate hybrid . Are you using a vincent bach 12+ mouthpiece.

Best Regards

oh so nice
Very nice 'bone. Creative, standard with some interesting new licks. I also want to know what mouthpiece you're using.
