ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Summer never felt better than with Sax-Man Chris Godber’s new release, Starting Over. It’s a breath of fresh air with addictive melodies and funky driving grooves that will get you down the road feeling good all while soothing you into your Chill-Zone. It has a distinctive Smooth Jazz vibe that bridges the gap between genres. Stellar musicianship on this one with Lowell Hopper and Adam Hawley making sure those Guitar solos are rock solid and Eric Lampley holding down a tight bass line; virtuoso piano work and top notch production courtesy of Caleb Middleton melt it all together. Eleven original tracks and one fresh rendition of Etta James' classic, “At Last” confirm Chris Godber’s sax chops are on par with the best of them. This is Godber’s best yet, and is sure to be on this summer’s must have list for smooth jazz lovers!

One to watch out for
Chris Godber was a new name to me but I always listen to smooth jazz new releases by saxophone players, my favourite instrument. In this age of digital downloads we are able to select the tracks we like rather than buy a whole album & that is what I did in this instance, 5 tracks, Rain, Summer Solstice, Can't Help Believin, Without You & Courageous. All excellent tracks & I am sure that other tracks will appeal to smooth jazz fans. A name to look out for in the future, I predict we will be hearing a lot more of this guy

SmoothJazz.com Review
Chris Godber was told as a child that his asthma was too severe to play the sax. His lifelong determination to beat the odds has led the chart-topping performer to wide acclaim for his latest album STARTING OVER – a set that mixes edgy, in the pocket funk with dreamy laid back chill and lots of romance in between. Bringing a refreshing sound with a distinctive gospel/R&B twist to the genre, Godber is a master at weaving addictive melodies on soprano and tenor with funky, driving grooves along with stellar musicianship featuring Lowell Hopper and Adam Hawley on guitar and Eric Lampley on bass for eleven originals and one killer cover of Etta James’ “At Last.” STARTING OVER has never been so easy to do. ~ Jonathan Widran
