ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Melding celtic melodies with folk and rock, Lorica retunes ancient prayers and presents a modern reflection on the journey of pilgrimage and God’s overwhelming grace.

The word “Lorica” is a Gallic word that means ‘protection.’ St. Patrick, St. Columba, and other Celtic writers were famous for writing Lorica prayers, and their focus on asking Christ to be all around them, in the words they spoke and heard, and in the journey they traveled, is the fertile ground from which this album was born. Most of the songs in this collection were written on Lindisfarne, in Northern England, and Iona, in Scotland, and they draw upon the deep well of Celtic psaltry and prayer in those regions.

The album art is taken from a stone etching on the shaft of “MacKinnons Cross” a 14th century cross that is currently on display in the Iona Abbey museum.
